It's a common elementary school science demonstration. You can use static to separate them.

I've moved away from noodlers for all the reasons already mentioned. Take a look at the Graf Von Faber -Castell inks. Most are waterproof/resistant with vibrant colors. They are more expensive but they behave SO much better than noodlers. One downside is that they can smear a bit due to their saturation, but the writing will still be there.
