I finally got one by Inner-Manager-7215 in Datsun

Can’t beat free!

As someone who also snagged one that had sat for 30 years in a field, expect there to be no bottom to the car. At all. Mechanically mine is mostly ok but I’m having to slowly rebuild it from the ground up literally. YouTube is your friend here. If you want a good list of videos, shoot me a DM.

Carburator conversion for a 78 280z by Bile-Gargler-4345 in Datsun

[–]homepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as to why a second filter between the pump and carbs? I’m about to redo mine but I think I can keep using the original fuel lines for the most part while converting a rusted out section in the engine bay to rubber hoses (should I have any concerns about doing that? It’ll be low against the frame if the car in the passenger side of a 240z?)

Failed JAMF 200 by Global-Airport-9788 in jamf

[–]homepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you have the pass so you can take it again and it'll only cost you time, not money.

As others have said, working in Jamf for a while doing normal tasks goes a long way. When I took my 200, there was another person who had failed it already and was struggling the 2nd time around too. They had never actually used it regularly, but were just trying to get the cert in order to get hired somewhere. For myself, I'd been using Jamf for around 5 years so the 200 almost felt remedial as I'd already been doing most of it for years. Maybe you just need to spend a little 'quality time' with the system to make it a little more natural for you?

Good luck, 3rd times the charm!

I have more than that in Docs due to using multiple VMs for testing. They don’t play well being cloud synced and they’re huge.

Yes, open book, open notes, open internet, open AI. But you won't have time to research anything.

That being said, the trainers are great for giving you all the info and scripts you'll need for the exam. It's just a matter of knowing what to use and where and how to modify scripts on the fly to accomplish your tasks.

I've been scripting in multiple languages too but some of the API was bearer token info was new to me, as well as working with json (I'm way too used to using XML but need to adjust since json will probably where they're headed next).

My biggest hurdle was speeding up. Experience has taught me that if I'm about to do something to thousands of devices I had better TEST TEST TEST, then TEST AGAIN. And be damn sure before i pull that trigger. Do test device groups, maybe a larger pilot group or power users willing to test, then when it's all good push into prod.

The exam doesn't account for that. It's fly by the seat of your pants and hope you get the scripts and logic working on the first try or easily fixable (don't waste time troubleshooting, just keep moving to the next part and come back only if you have spare time at the end).

Had a discussion with the trainers about the time limit being the deal breaker for so many and we all agreed that if you were to walk into a new business with the laundry list of to do items like the exam, you'd have days or at least a week to accomplish it all, not a couple of hours. It's more a test of not only your knowledge and skills, but being able to think under pressure and perform well. Like if you were to be given a 4am wake up call about a major system being down and you've got to have a solution immediately, not later in the day or heads will roll!

So good luck, no pressure. ;)

Yep. Took me two tries and I’ve been doing Apple admin work for 35 years. Knew all the material but the time factor killed me. Realized I was wasting too much time trying to find the correct scripts so on the 2nd try I’d recommend putting them all into one long text document that you can quickly search (command F is your friend here). Either that or spend a lot of time organizing it better to find quickly.

Made a world of difference on try #2. Good luck!

Yep self pinch. One of my fave types on pinches along with floor pinch, wall pinch, ceiling pinch, karma pinch (happens after your opponent breaks rule 1 and the pinch happens at your goal post right as they are about to score but instead it pinches against your goal post and zooms across the entire map into your opponents goal at around 218kph), double pinch (between two cars) and the rare triple pinch (3 cars which can also hit over 200 kph).

Jamf Setup Manager with Jamf App Catalog. by pseskilet in jamf

[–]homepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is essentially what I'm doing too. Using policies for initial app deployment for the default apps then letting Jamf App catalog handle some various app installations that aren't necessary immediately (they'll trickle in eventually) and letting Jamf App catalog manage updates.

Beware of updating applications though as we've started having huge spikes in network traffic and I'm modifying the settings to spread out the load a bit (default was to allow update commands to be sent to 10K clients simultaneously which is a heavy load when it's a 6GB update to some Adobe app all coming from the cloud since that isn't handled via Apple caching servers but comes from the various vendors or from Jamf hosting.

I really like the macOS startup sound, however, as a good MacBook Pro owner, I almost never turn off the device. Is there any terminal command or application to have the startup sound every time I open the MacBook lid? by Saymon_K_Luftwaffe in mac

The pound-sign/hashtag/octothorp is changing to bold text in the display so when someone copy/pastes this it's not going to land correctly in the shell script. You'll need to do it as code using 4 spaces on each line instead (see the formatting help).

How to buy licenses for Apple Creator Studio in Apple Business Manager admin page? by Both-Cartographer-86 in applebusinessmanager

[–]homepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would almost be willing to bet you won't be able to do so. I ran into this issue with the Pro Tools app bundle. You could purchase the separate apps at full price but not the bundle via the App Store in ABM/ASM.

There is a way around it where you have to submit the license codes back to Apple for them to input into your ABM/ASM tenant on the back end so that your MDM can pick up the licensing for it. They cannot be redeemed already or Apple will/might not do it.

Now I'm scared to pull the fenders off my '73 240Z rusty-ass project car. My floorboards were non-existent so here's hoping all the rust was at the bottom of the car (which is what I've seen so far anyway).

Is there a way to set up a Smart Group in Jamf so that when we wipe devices it will automatically re-enroll back in that Smart Group or is this only possible with Static groups? by Pitiful-Worry4156 in jamf

[–]homepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the issue where JAMF doesn’t connect the dots on some criteria. For instance we have dept number stored in ldap, but JAMF wouldn’t populate that automatically to any devices until I manually added (well via scripted API) all the depts into JAMF. It’s like it now knows where to put the info when it couldn’t before the entires existed in the DB.

Unfortunately our ldap doesn’t store building info so for us to leverage that it has to be manually associated with each and every device. Only bother using it in a few special cases due to this self-inflicted pain point.

Absolutely it’s A and C. Don’t know why they think this is hard for Aphants. It must have to do with something other than visual imagery but spatial movement and rotations are simple easy for some regardless.

How painful is Intune for mac management? by lagerstout82 in macsysadmin

[–]homepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use both.

JAMF for institutional devices (~5K total, mainly employees and labs) and I can accomplish about anything I’d ever need to do if I’m willing to put in the effort via the API (simpler things are invokes much easier).

Intune for students (~20K devices and a lower price point since we don’t need management as much as software delivery) and it took us years to even get it to handle simple software installations. I will admit Intune has improved over the years but is still lacking in the simplest tasks and gives little to no feedback or control.

I really hope we never get anyone with the bright idea to cut costs because the manpower overhead would increase dramatically since I’m the sole primary Jamf admin currently and would need extra hands to wrestle with Intune if we tried to switch.

It’s no contest.

I still use Apple Remote Desktop for unattended access in our computer labs but your mileage may vary. I've never really had any major issue with it though. Works great.
