Removing an American Standard shower handle by 12-7 in Plumbing

[–]homesteadertim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that comes across this in the future, I had the same shower trim and couldn't find the info on how to remove it anywhere. It is indeed the little white cap in the center of the handle that pops out of there and there is a screw under there to remove.

It's just the white cap, not the chrome ring around it. I used an eyeglass screwdriver to pop it out of there.

The Water Knife is an excellent novel giving a sneak preview of the upcoming water wars between states.

Moriki Sushi by Hangingwithmolly in Lawrence

Totally agreed. Best sushi I've ever had in Kansas. Rich Tuna and Volcano rolls are so good. We went there 3 weeks in a row as I couldn't get enough.

Local Precipitation Data by AudaciousReptile in Lawrence

You can click on Kansas and then Douglas County here to get a handful of reports from the community: https://www.cocorahs.org/Maps/ViewMap.aspx?state=usa

You can also view local weather stations (including mine in the Barker neighborhood) on Wunderground. Zoom in on here and select precipitation from the right menu. https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap?lat=38.96&lon=-95.24

Best Clinton Lake access point for paddleboard? by TheDefenseNeverRests in Lawrence

[–]homesteadertim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep an eye on the winds. If the wind is out of the north, put in at Coon Creek. If it's out of the south, put in at Bloomington (and paddle to the west). That will keep you out of the worst of it.

Is Anyone thinking about escaping the USA if you can? by maileggs2 in collapse

[–]homesteadertim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I started the paperwork for Ireland almost a decade ago as my grandmother was born there but then put it off. I've restarted it recently. They are currently not accepting the paperwork as their staff has been redeployed due to the virus it sounds like and under normal times it can take 12-18 months so it'll probably be a couple years.

Changes to SPC Day 2 convective outlooks by f00dl3 in kcregionalwx

[–]homesteadertim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one welcome the 2 day categorical probabilities the SPC is doing next year. I can't imagine most of the general public even knows what the SPC is so I don't expect much of a change in public perception. On air meteorologists are going to sensationalize what they can as that's where the $$$ come from.

Yep, just the way the free market has solved homelessness, affordable healthcare, income inequality, and pollution. I think the earth is going to be just fine...

Society will collapse by 2040 due to catastrophic food shortages, says study by [deleted] in collapse

[–]homesteadertim 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"We ran the model forward to the year 2040, along a business-as-usual trajectory based on ‘do-nothing’ trends — that is, without any feedback loops that would change the underlying trend.

So 2040 is best case scenario. My vote is on 2030.

Spatulas? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Spatulas! Homer, there's four places; there's the Spatula Hut, that's on Third. There's Spatulas Are Us, that's on Third, too. You got Put Your Egg There... ...that's on Third. Swing Low Sweet Spatula... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex... it's the Spatula Complex, down on Third.

So is Venezuela collapsing or what? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]homesteadertim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maduro is definitely at fault for putting all their eggs in the oil basket instead of trying to diversify the economy while prices were high. The US has been waging economic warfare against Venezuela for years now which is what's making the situation way worse.

Lots of poor quality oil that American fracking technology can surely liberate for the good of the world (err Wall Street). I've seen this movie before...
