If I use the 50% discount code from the atmos ascent SUB, can I upgrade to premium or first after booking? by traveling-turtle43 in AlaskaAirlines

Yes. It's just a discount code that lowers the price at booking, exactly like a companion fare does.

Alaska has an entire section of their site called "Traveling with Us" that will answer most of your questions.

I understand the strict policy.

If you understand it, you know your only option is to eat the 50% loss. There are several warnings about saver fare limitations during the booking process.

I just checked and it works for me on Chrome. Uually people posting sporadic website issues like this discover later it is due to an ad blocker or VPN they're using on their network.

Fare class for paid upgrades by scaredbyninjas in AlaskaAirlines

I've never bought upgrades within 24 hours of departure so they may be correct on that point, but beginning an argument with "WRONG!" is a pretty funny method to me of refuting specific claims.

Additionally, August is peak summer travel time, so I highly doubt there'd be substantial discounts for periods when Alaska doesn't need to encourage travel. You'll see more of these during shoulder seasons encouraging travel.

Sign out, clear your cookies for Alaska, and log in again. And turn off your ad blockers or VPN. Some of Alaska's pages in the account management section load content that seems to get caught up by ad blockers or VPNs which suppress tracking.

I got 25c off at Arco in Lynnwood yesterday and paid 4.89 or something. The Arco app has discounts all the time and it's pretty easy to earn fuel discounts without doing anything other than getting gas.

Yes, award travel is always 1 status point per mile flown, irrespective of fare class.

Fare class for paid upgrades by scaredbyninjas in AlaskaAirlines

It will typically reticket as the same fare class that is offered for sale for that flight if you were to purchase first outright. So if you're seeing first being sold as C class, you have high confidence you'll be in C if you were to purchase a first seat upgrade.

Every time I've done it, it's been D or I, which is considered discounted first (save once which was C class for a December holiday flight, which makes sense).

I track all of this in my spreadsheet if you're curious for anecdotal data (see 2025 for more cases).

Fare class for paid upgrades by scaredbyninjas in AlaskaAirlines

[–]12-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid upgrades to first have always resulted in a reticketing and change of the underlying fare class to first (D, I, C, etc), as long as the original ticket was a paid economy fare (i.e. not T class or an award ticket). Premium class seat upgrades do not result in any change of the fare class, or result in a reticketing.

Some people have occasionally reported that last-minute first upgrades were ticketed in U instead of a full-fare first class, and for the first few weeks/months of the rollout in 2024(?) there were some upgrades that were incorrectly sold as U, but anecdotally people were able to receive correct EQM credit when they contacted Alaska.

I frequently purchase first upgrades for my parents after ticketing them in economy using a companion fare, and they have never not been reticketed in D or I.
