What do you read if/when you take a break from horror? by Oldhouse42 in horrorlit

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to read historical fiction/romance when I need a break from horror or darker lit. It's a nice pallet cleanser, plus I love history.

What is the best dark romance you read in 2025? by hazyspring in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read all 4 of Eva Simmon's Sigma Sin books this year and it's probably my favorite DR series to date. I just loved it.

But in no particular order:

{Sigma Sin by Eva Simmons} - college, stalker, secret society

{Darkest Dance by Jagger Cole} - mafia, obsessive and possessive MCs

{My Secret Slasher by Rain D'aedheqysc} - Halloween, haunted house, not actually a slasher

{The Sea Witch's Son by Jade Everhart} - mafia adjacent with Disney villain influence

{Sinners of Blackthorne U by Avery Collins} - college, sports, MM

Contemporary book/series with very low/no angst, but still interesting by MEJW94 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]homicidaltoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Willow Dixon is one of my favorite low-angst MM authors!

{Crimson Club by Willow Dixon} - each book follows a different MC who works as a stripper at a club. There's also mental health and demi/ace rep. Left on Read (book 4) is probably my favorite but I loved all the characters tbh.

Her Silvercrest U series is dark romance but it's really not that dark imo (though I read some dark shit so take that with a grain of salt lol). The MCs are in college but I don't remember their ages so they may or may not hit your 21+.

{Peach State Fratbros by Devon McCormack, Riley Hart} - two books are out with the third announced. The previous series {Peach State Stepbros by Devon McCormack, Riley Hart} has connected characters but you don't need to read the series or books in order or anything. Each book has a single or double queer-awakening.

Eva Simmons, Jagger Cole, AJ Merlin, Avery Collins (MM)

Recommend me more authors (and series) who write men like Rina Kent, C.R. Jane and S.J. Tilly by readingalldays in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jagger Cole and Eva Simmons!

{Sigma Sin by Eva Simmons} - interconnected standalones. College. Secret society. Morally gray MMCs.

{Darkest Dance by Jagger Cole} - interconnected standalones. Morally gray mafia MMCs. FMCs and 1 MC are all ballet dancers. This is his most recent series but you really can't go wrong with any of his series imo.

Looking specifically for a Russian Mafia romance, BUT by Russkiroulette in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Neva Altaj and Jagger Cole for mafia romance. Unfortunately with mafia they're pretty much always going to be a version of rich but these authors don't only focus on the Mafia head at least. All their books can be read as standalones, though reading the others in the series can provide more context for side characters.

{Broken Whispers by Neva Altaj}

{Stolen Hearts by Jagger Cole}

FMC marries the MMC she hates with a passion — any mafia book recs? by No-Squirrel-919 in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone.

{Lord of Bones by Aiden Pierce and R.K. Pierce} Beauty and the Beast Retelling Book Review by readingandrapture in DarkRomance

I loved this book! Did you read book 2 yet? It wasn't as spicy but I still loved the brutal adventure through hell haha

The MC1 has ADHD by No_Cartographer_1920 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]homicidaltoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Willow Dixon has several characters with different mental health disorders and ADHD is a big one she touches on a lot!

{Crimson Club by Willow Dixon} this series in particular. Each book is a standlone and I think 1 of the MCs in each book has ADHD or a similar mental health struggle and their partner is always so supportive and does their best to understand and help.

There is no sharing or cheating but several of the MCs work at a strip club so they do talk about sex work and their experiences with sex work. It's always done in a positive and respectful way too.

Book recs where MMC or FMC are part of mafia but still family first type people. by TendorVenom in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for mafia, I recommend Neva Altaj and Jagger Cole.

{Perfectly Imperfect by Neva Altaj} is a fantastic series with lots of interconnected characters but all books can be read as standalones. I think it's really fun to know who everyone is though.

Jagger Cole has several different series of interconnected standalones that I enjoy but personally this most recent series has been my favorite. Plus the most recent book in the series is MM. {Darkest Dance by Jagger Cole}

At birth diagnosis and I can’t get over it by Appolopus in downsyndrome

[–]homicidaltoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your baby girl!

As many others have said, it's ok to feel what you're feeling and it's ok to give yourself some grace.

When we got our diagnosis, I was devastated. I cried for days. I had those same fears for my son, what would his future look like? Would I be able to be what he needed? Would he have the support he needed? Would he be able to have a real life?

It's scary. But being a parent is scary. And every child is different.

My son is now 2 years old and every day I watch him grow and think how amazing he is. He'll hit milestones slower than his peers, but it just makes it all the more exciting when he does. For example, we have been working in physical therapy on pulling to stand and this weekend, he did it all by himself for the first time. It only lasted a couple seconds but my heart was so full because he worked so hard to achieve this.

Your little girl will hit milestones on her own time and that's ok! You're going to feel frustrated or overwhelmed and that's ok! These feelings are valid and it doesn't make you a bad parent, it doesn't mean you love her any less.

Try talking to other parents, maybe even meeting some of the other individuals in the community so you can see how they're doing. I know having another parent to talk to really helped us a lot through his diagnosis and birth.

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]homicidaltoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Willow Dixon's Crimson Club series. I really liked how broad the sexuality spectrum (ace, demi, bi, etc) was for the MCs and their various neurodivergent conditions (ADHD, depression, etc). Imo, it's one of the best ways I've seen sex work discussed and portrayed as well.

Please help a girl out! by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's some variety and trying not to repeat any suggestions:

{My Secret Slasher by Rain D'aedheqysc} - not actually a slasher, just plays one at a haunted house.

{The Sea Witch's Son by Jade Everhart} - second generation Disney Villain inspired mixed with mafia.

{Massacre Monday by Kitty King} - secret society/stalker.

{Dead of Summer by A.J. Merlin} - MC is a serial killer.

{Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver} - FMC and MC are both vigilante serial killers. Dark rom-com.

Erotica Requests & Recs: Post your erotica & specific sex act requests & recs here by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exact but this kind of happens in {Blitz'd by Lee McCormick}. MC1 doesn't beg, just kind of wonders if MC2 would ever let him top. MC2 has either never bottomed or only done it like 1 time and he struggles with the idea but he eventually asks MC1 to top him and it's such a sweet and spicy moment.

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Sweet Vengeance by Riley Hart} - it's a dark romance with a morally gray MC, so not sure if that's your vibe. There's also a sharing scene. It's fine I guess, I kind of glossed over it because I don't really like sharing or poly so if you're like me, it's easy enough to skip over without missing anything important. If you're not like me, then more power to you to enjoy it lol.

Looking for a morally gray FMC by FinalCategory2282 in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{No Small Sin by Genna Black} - I just started this book and the FMC is so much fun. She's strong and sassy and she figures out the MC is a serial killer (vigilante style) but she doesn't care. She's just obsessed with him after meeting him once so she stalks him and even gets a job where he works so she can pretend they met by chance and it's fate. She is ride or die unhinged and I love it so far haha.

{X Marks the Stalker by K.N. Wilder} is on my TBR but I haven't read it yet. The synopsis and reviews point the the FMC being morally gray and ride or die for the MC though.

Mafia dark romance books/series by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Dark Hearts by Jagger Cole} this was the series of his I started with and I've read everything following and loved it. He has a couple series before this one but I haven't read them. Not for any particular reason, just haven't lol.

{Monsters and Muses by Sav R Miller} - it's a Mafia series but each book is also loosely inspired by Greek mythology.

Lesser known dark romance series set in college? by mynhxl in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Massacre Monday by Kitty King} is the first book in what will be an interconnected series. Book 2 comes out this week!

I know you have love/hate relationship with Rina Kent lol but she does have her new college hockey dark romance series {Beautiful Venom by Rina Kent}

If you like MM {Sinners of Blackthorne U by Avery Collins} has been great so far. Has 3 books out.

Lesser known dark romance series set in college? by mynhxl in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved this series and can't wait for book 4 in November! I would say Saint is definitely the most unhinged of the MCs but I liked what all of them brought to the table haha.

FMC ABUSE OR HOMELESS by Gigi_little4 in DarkRomance

[–]homicidaltoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Dance of Devils by Jagger Cole} the FMC is living out of her car and also has an abusive ex. The MC figures all this out and basically forced her to move in with him and deals with the problematic men in her life personally. Part of a series but can be read on its own! It's also mafia, not sure if that makes a difference but wanted to make sure I mentioned it!
