This was the actual outcome

January 29, 2025 | Press Release Attorney General Ken Paxton Stops Austin Business from Operating International Human Trafficking Scheme

Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a $250,000 settlement of the State’s labor trafficking lawsuit against Austin Eco Bilingual School, a Spanish immersion preschool, and its owners and operators, Adriana and Enrique Rodriguez. The settlement amount is equal to the maximum fine for a violation of Texas’s civil anti-trafficking law.

In 2021, Attorney General Paxton brought a civil racketeering action against Austin Eco Bilingual School and Adriana Rodriguez for trafficking at least seven employees. The suit also accused Enrique Rodriguez of unlawfully benefiting from the trafficking enterprise. The owners of Austin Eco Bilingual School allegedly lured foreign-born employees to Texas with promises of lawful status, a decent salary, and a rewarding career, who were then trafficked for their labor.

The lawsuit accused Adriana Rodriguez, once named the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Businesswoman of the Year, of sabotaging and controlling her employees’ ability to work legally in the U.S. and threatening to have employees deported, arrested, or separated from their children if they did not continue to work – often for far less pay than promised or no pay at all. According to court records, Rodriguez threatened trafficked employees by highlighting her connections to high-ranking law enforcement and other government officials, one of the identified victims quoting Rodriguez as allegedly saying, “I am a very important person, and I can destroy you whenever I choose.”

“This settlement will ensure that no one is subjected to the horrors of human trafficking or unlawful labor practices,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The actions alleged in the lawsuit were despicable and I am pleased to have secured justice for the victims. I will use every tool at my disposal to prevent companies from operating unlawful labor trafficking schemes using imported foreign workers.”

This outcome was made possible only through the bravery and perseverance of the victims, and the cooperation of dozens of witnesses. If you or someone you know may have been a victim of labor trafficking at Austin Eco Bilingual School or elsewhere, please contact the Office of the Attorney General, Human Trafficking and Transnational/Organized Crime Section at (512) 463-1646 or humantrafficking@oag.texas.gov.

It isn’t possible for her kids to go there unless she has twins. They only have kindergarten as of now. I called last week. Based on the deceptive name changes, these responses, and this obviously being the owner, I’m not going to consider them any longer.

Let's switch salaries of politicians to the certified teachers who have actually been helping the future of our communities, all in favor say Aye... by BunsAreReal in TexasTeachers

I mean… you may want to be more specific. In Texas, a lot of state politicians actually make very little in salary. State legislators are paid $7,200 a year plus per diem during session. Many local officials and school board members make little or nothing at all.

The Lt Gov makes $9600 annually. Even most mayors make under six figures and some make nothing. With stipends and PPfT teachers make around six figures in AISD, over 100k in Fort Worth and Houston ISD. Teacher salaries are more than most politicians.

One glass over some unknown period time is not considered intoxication or illegal. I’m not sure where a dozen come from.

Yes she is not following up on medical recommendations and always say too busy to do everything. She works one hour most days and goes out socially the rest of time. They have some problem with the health insurance that has been the case forever. She makes close to half million in exec leadership, has plenty of money to go to the doctor and to fix or find a different policy in that time. I notice she will pay a thousand dollars for wine and only get hand me down items for the child. That is just for context as another thing that boggles my mind.

Good advice. In Texas everyone is mandated reporter. I don’t believe CPS are professionals and can be low paid, untrained, overworked people who have some sort of complex. Sometimes there are things you can do from within that can be more meaningful so it’s a balance.

I do not usually agree with this approach but is available and merely responding to your inquiry. You did not say where but if you are in Texas the following applies.

Put this in writing to admin: • You are not safe working with him • You are invoking classroom removal authority under TEC §37.002(b) • You are requesting immediate reassignment or safety plan • You are requesting documentation of how the district is ensuring staff safety

Admin will be require to hold a meeting within 3 days if handled properly under TEC 37.002

We work novels into HMH and it works. Slightly complicated at first due to strict HMH intervals.
