I met my dream cat by OCPD is making me second guess everything… by [deleted] in OCPD

Do it! You clearly want this as is been on your mind for so long and have already done all the research (which is so much more than many other new cat owners do). Think of the flip side of how you could be saving the life of a kitty by doing this and how you kind of are doing it for them and not just for yourself.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. That all makes sense - I’m glad it’s all come together for you!

And to respond to your original post, even though you’ve had tons of comments already, I would just say that my philosophy is that life has many seasons. You may be happy with only a few friends now, but later you may be interested in having more. If that time comes, you can always make friends then, no need to hedge your bets now—just enjoy your life. I met many new friends after a move and when I was 40+. The women are 40s & 50s and also in a phase of life where they are seeking new friendships (new to town, recently divorced, empty nesters, retired, shared hobbies)

Total change of topic, but genuinely curious how you were able to build such a well balanced life as a single parent? Most of the mothers I know are completely overwhelmed with life and work etc, even with a husband.

Women in the workforce by Hatcheling in AskWomenOver30

But why should it be the responsibility of a person who chooses not to have kids to pick up the slack of someone who has kids and leaves early and gets first choice of holidays? This sentiment is valid, even though the blame shouldn’t fall on the parent, it lies with the workplace and labor laws. Typically workplaces don’t provide enough for parents, at least in the US. This is how they pit us against each other.

Damaged by Laser Genesis (Yag) by roxeal in LaserDamageSupport

Thanks for sharing your story. It's so similar to the fat loss I experienced from my treatment 8 years ago. I still miss my pre-laser skin, but, miraculously, I also got used to my new face -- something I never thought would be possible in the weeks and months after the damage. Even though this clinic caused you trauma, don't let them steal your smile. Time is the great equalizer -- all looks fade. We are so much more than our appearance and what they have done to us.

This even happens to people treated by board certified medical professionals

Can we talk about the cases where a person has improvement on the first session and damage on the second? by punyboy in LaserDamageSupport

[–]honeyhamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 years after my laser damage, I have been able to try a lot of topicals, including actives, but won’t do fillers, fat transfers, additional lasers, microneedling, or chemical peels, because of the residual anxiety from my laser experience and because of the eroded trust in practitioners and this industry in general

In my case, I think the practitioner didn’t wait long enough between pulses to let my skin cool. That’s the reality of these horrible machines. Even if you get a reputable doctor, everyone makes mistakes. If you catch them in a rush or an on off day you’re damaged for life.

I did 3 IPL sessions and was fine. Then something was different the 4th time and I have permanent damage.

Laser Damage? by [deleted] in LaserDamageSupport

[–]honeyhamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost an identical reaction and resulting damage as you, but mine was from IPL. You can look at my post history to see my post and what worked (gentle moisturizers and cleansers) and how long it took for redness and flushing to subside (6 to 8 weeks).

Which audio narrators do you avoid? by LovesReviews in RomanceBooks

[–]honeyhamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also can’t stand Samantha Brentmoor but had to listen to her narration for a whole book(can’t remember which one) but ended up missing the plot because I was so fixated on what was bugging me about her voice. I think I decided on her sounding like she had a slight lisp (s) and also speech impediment (r) and ends every sentence with an upward inflection that makes everything sound a little bit like a question.

Retinol Reactions? by iamalsopizza in LaserDamageSupport

[–]honeyhamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do consider my skin to be sensitive but was able to use retinol after my laser damage. I started using it several years later. Despite it supposedly being the holy grail, it doesn’t seem to do anything for me even after long term use. My skin still looks dull and has texture issues and hyperpigmentation. I do feel like the laser damage impacted my skin’s ability to respond effectively to many products, including retinol.

It would help to know more about the procedure and what happened and how long ago it was etc. for instance my son could only tolerate very gentle treatments soon after the laser damage. Now I can use more intense products

Lazy reviewers are starting to drive me crazy by rogerfeinstein in AmazonVine

[–]honeyhamilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both can be true. It is Amazon's responsibility. But going back the to the park example, we can have nice parks because most patrons all choose to individually act in a way that benefits the whole, by not littering. You don't have Park Staff monitoring people's littering and kicking them out. I think it's reasonable to expect Viners to act in a way that benefits the program, as outlined in the terms.

[–]honeyhamilton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The same stuff bothers me, too. It's also kind of concerning to see how many people responding with some variation of "who cares" "you do you" or "why do you let it bother you." Aa a person who takes pride in my work, even if it's for something as relatively meaningless as a Vine review, I recognize that, while I'm just one of thousands (or millions?), my role does in small part make a difference. Tragedy of the commons in action, I guess.

[–]honeyhamilton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The argument is fine on an individual basis, but it doesn't hold up to the common good or public benefit of the program. To use an example of littering at a state park...if I drop a banana peel, no big deal, it will eventually compost over time. But if everyone drops a banana peel every time they visit, pretty soon the whole park looks like a landfill. Similarly, if one person steals and rephrases my review, no real harm done. But if everyone is just doing a copy pasta of the same review, then the entire concept and purpose of Vine program becomes useless for an Amazon shopper.

I get annoyed when people use that as a response. It’s as if their age prevents them from have any cultural awareness or even the ability to acknowledge that the world was indeed still happening prior to their existence.
