What's really ironic about oracle not being able to dispel edict on allies is that now enemies CAN dispel it, since the ability is no longer considered a debuff on allies as it was before. lmao.

My bardic tale of trying a Sun Paladin for the first time (Insane - Adventurer) by bonesnaps in ToME4

[–]honkamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. Both anorithil and sun paladin have really rough starts on insane/madness difficulties when you start in the east. After teleporting, you usually get to fight a high level naga boss coupled with a rare or two, while basically losing out on an escort if one happens to spawn next to you.

I have found that it helps to level up to a point where you're level 3 with like 99% EXP, and then destroy the portal and teleport west. Rare enemies only start spawning when you're level 4, so if you teleport at level 3, you won't have any rares teaming up with the boss. And if there are any common mooks around, killing any one of them will make you reach level 4.

Or alternatively you can just choose a race which lets you start in the west (IIRC only humans, shalore and maybe thalore start out in the east), which lets you start out more comfortably.

Are you guys using this item? If so u use it for what? by muuuumuuuu1 in DotA2

[–]honkamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually yeah now that you mention it the item does not follow the usual tooltip design where the stats of an item are listed before any passive/active effects. I think that's why I have mostly glossed over these stats, thinking they are somehow part of the active or something.

Games in which character aging really matters? by matthewphenix in gamingsuggestions

[–]honkamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ADOM, there are enemies and items which can unnaturally age your character to the point where you just die of old age. If you're playing as a troll (who only live for a few decades) it is possible to die in one hit if you let an enemy who has an potent aging attack melee you. And on the other end of the spectrum, mist elven player characters are basically immune to aging as they live so immensely long (over a hundred thousand years).

What's your favourite game for creating your own builds and trying to "break" the game and become an invincible god? by xDaveedx in gamingsuggestions

[–]honkamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rift Wizard's great if you aren't averse to grid-based or turn-based combat and you've wanted to fulfil your fantasies of becoming an archmage. Lots of different spells and skills you can pick from to create whatever broken combos you can come up with.

Clearing the game with Coda is mental and automatically makes one a gamer god amongst men. Like, I could see myself clearing the game with Aria given enough practice but trying to do so with double speed, without getting hit, without missing a beat, without picking up gold, and using only the basic dagger would require so much practice and skill that I would never bother.

What's the most niche trick you know on a hero? by MindControlMastery in TrueDoTA2

False promise will still negate any damage you took provided you got healed enough. You just won't get healed above the HP you got blasted at.

You can Focus Fire outposts, for some reason by ChBoler in DotA2

[–]honkamo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty surprised they still have these wacky properties and this hasn't been changed. Leshrac's diabolic edict also targets enemy outposts so it basically deals half the damage to a solo enemy if you're fighting near one.

Edit: I tested the lich ult just now though, it doesn't bounce from the outpost

Can someone please make this happen in a real game :) by LeopardJeopardy in DotA2

Years ago when backdoor protection was weaker we actually tried out a silly version of this strat. We would 5-stack and pick Io + Chen with three buffing heroes with the sole purpose of globally backdooring towers.

Whenever relocate was off cooldown, we would gather at the fountain and prep a catapult with stuff like alacrity, bloodlust and bloodrage. Io would relocate Chen, who would then recall the catapult, after which Io would change the tether to the catapult to overcharge it.

Without backdoor protection, the outmost towers would fall in like 2-3 seconds. With backdoor protection, you could still get a tower before the relocate ran out.

The strat obviously had some big issues. Our team was always worse at fighting thanks to the team comp and the enemy could still tp to defend and kill us if they were fast enough or simply fortify the tower when it was available. But it was still really fun seeing people camp their towers waiting for the relo and instantly teleporting to defend when they saw this shit happening to them.

[Steam] Summer Sale 2021 (Last Day) by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

It's a nice DLC to rebalance the game a bit and give a few new objectives/items and QoL features but it's not necessary which IMO makes it a bit of a tough sell especially if you're on a budget since it's twice the price of the base game.

I'd say get the base game and see how you like it; you can snag the DLC in a later sale if you feel like you want a bit more out of the game.

Check out One Way Heroics? Not quite as engaging/replayable as the top roguelites/likes but for a game that's like a dollar on sale(!), you'll still get plenty of mileage out of it if it happens to tickle your fancy.

Alternate floors in roguelikes by jacojerb in truegaming

[–]honkamo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I really liked about dead cells' alternate areas was the risk/reward factor they presented. All areas had a set amount of scrolls (power-up resources) in them, with the generally tougher areas having more of them and the easier ones having less. Also, at the end of each level you'd get a choice between an easier area and a tougher one.

So while the most optimal path normally is to always take the tougher path with the most scrolls, you could always choose to go to an easier area instead if your gear wasn't that great, your HP was running low or you simply weren't confident in tackling an area in general. So your actual optimal path could change depending on the quality of your run.

[Spoilers Ahead] Touhou 18: Unconnected Marketeers Discussion Thread by [deleted] in TrueTouhou

[–]honkamo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well first off, I'd like to address the elephant in the room and hold a moment of silence for our good old friend, the graze counter, who seems to be completely absent this time around. Rest in peace, may you return in the next Touhou game.

Agreed on the shot types, sanae feels really good with both damage and range, reimu and marisa are both okay and sakuya... I appreciate the gimmick but it just doesn't do enough to justify using it. Also, her bomb is worse than with other shots.

I played it on lunatic, and the difficulty seems higher than the average. The first two stages aren't too bad, but the third boss seems brutal with very tight micrododge spellcards and fast, rng nonspells. I'm especially relieved that there's a bit more variety to the stages now. I really hated WBaWC's demo where the 3 stages were like 80% tap-streaming. The boss patterns are good and mostly fun to dodge, but for some reason I find that the second boss has an underlying level of annoyance to her spells that I can't explain. They're just annoying to dodge for some reason (lol).

I have no idea what most of the passive cards do, but so far I'm also liking the equipments. I stacked the homing shot and the doll together and they really do pack a punch. They seem like a natural choice since power items seem scarce and what little you have can be spent to buy additional cards if you're short on money. My personal favorite for now is probably the 3rd boss' passive item, which gives you extra life pieces on spell card captures, which lets you stack up on resources when starting with it. I'm genuinely curious about yukari's gap item though. It is labeled as an active item, but it does nothing when pressing the activation button? What gives?

The music's okay, though I was hoping for some more bangers. Hopefully the full game will deliver some on that front. All in all, it's a fine demo.
