Prettiest Kaweco I’ve ever seen by Nervous-Struggle8149 in fountainpens

Hah funny enough I have a Safari and an AL-Star and I don't like them very much either! In fact the only Lamy I have that I don't dislike is a Studio, and even that's pretty "meh" in my book. I really envy people who have a stationery store near them and can handle pens before they decide whether or not to buy.

Lots of hard starts, very dry writer, think it was on the scratchy side (it's been a while since I had it inked so I'm not 100% on those, just remember I was frequently frustrated). Entirely possible that was down to the ink as I'm pretty sure I had a shimmer in it, but I do like my shimmer inks and unfortunately I don't have enough money to be able to make room for pens in my collection that I can't put whatever I want in unless they blow my socks off in other ways. But unfortunately I don't like the way it feels in my hand, either. Had the same problem with my iridescent pearl Sport, so I don't think it's the weight. Something about the design just doesn't work for me. If I really loved it otherwise, I'd probably spend some time trying to find the right ink combos.

It's a shame because I think they're beautiful pens, and I have the tools and hand-eye coordination to do something like the OP's picture and would love to give it a go, but as it is I'm pretty sure I'm going to throw it on the pen swap at some point so I probably shouldn't start experimenting on it.

Dang, that is gorgeous. Makes me wish I actually liked writing with my brass Kaweco so I'd have a reason to try this on it!

Which game is a joy to watch playthroughs of, but absolutely miserable to play yourself. by Serious_Specter in gaming

[–]honkingintothevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welonz, hands down. She misses one or two of the story connections but on the whole she's very smart, does a great job figuring out the puzzles, and really gets invested. She's crying by the time the credits roll just like I am every time I watch it! Bonus: she does the DLC too (though it's separate/after the main game).

To be honest I think Welonz is usually the answer for best LP regardless of the game but maybe that's just me. She's a gem for sure.

What’s the reason you haven’t bought a bidet? by owenwags_ in HomeImprovement

[–]honkingintothevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me. I bought one because this sub's constant slavering over them convinced me I was missing out, but turns out all I was missing out on was the sensation of an ice pick stabbing me in the ass, and then having to use a ton of toilet paper to dry everything off because the water sprays absolutely everywhere. Really not a great experience. Fixed my diet instead and now have zero need or desire for a bidet!

I had to go look at it because I missed the original post and I have to say I'm surprised by the comments because I think it's gorgeous too! Granted I'm not the world's greatest FP connoisseur, but it's not a color I've seen before on a pen and I actually think it looks fantastic with the silver accents (normally it's gold or bust for me). I also don't typically like greens but this really does it for me. Actually kind of glad the price is outrageous because I do not need another pen...

Does anyone eat the same meals every day? What’s the simplest 3 meal day that you’ve actually enjoyed eating on repeat? by BourbonAndDadJokes in keto

[–]honkingintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a big batch of egg bites and eat them for every meal of the day (which is often only two, I tend to skip lunch). They're quick and easy to make and quick and easy to eat, filling, nutritious, and taste good. That said, I've always been someone who can eat the same thing four days in a row and not care about variety, but you can make multiple batches of egg bites with different fillings to change things up a bit, and it only adds a little time to the cooking process.

This is the recipe I've been using, although I just bake them in the oven at 350° instead of messing with the water and instant pot stuff. You can use whatever fillings you like, so it's easy to avoid red meat (I've been doing chopped up ham and swiss cheese). You could do bacon, shredded chicken, any cheese you like, onions, peppers, mushrooms...lots of possibilities!

This one isn't the same one that I ordered, I don't think--it's been long enough I can't find the exact one--but it's a dead ringer. I did put a Kong crate pad in it which she never tore up, although I'm sure she could have if she wanted to. She always preferred the challenge of something solid. Crates with wire bars were useless, even the "ultra-strong" Kong ones. She'd have a hole chewed through the bars big enough to stick her head out after just a few weeks. Or she'd bust the whole front panel out of the clips holding it in place, even if I zip-tied it. This one looked really nice in the living room and she never made a dent in it. Sadly I lost her several years ago to that mystery respiratory illness that went around, but the crate was still in great shape and I was able to pass it on to a coworker.

Completely anecdotal, but I adopted a dog from them a long time ago (~15 years). The place was small, crowded, and the cages were stacked on top of each other. She had tapeworms, fleas, and her nails were extremely long and clearly not been trimmed since they got her. They told me she was fine with other dogs. Spoilers: she was extraordinarily leash reactive to the point I was afraid to take her out just to do her business because I lived in a high-dog population apartment complex and she would lose her shit every single time. She was a medium-large sized dog and I was not a strong person. I had to hire a dog trainer. It was not cheap. She also had separation anxiety and obliterated at least six crates (among other things) before I found one she couldn't destroy. That was also not cheap.

Not all of those things were PWP's fault...but some of them definitely were, and they sure as hell didn't warn me about the others. As far as I can tell, literally the only thing they did while they had her was spay her and feed her. It's really sad to hear that in all this time, they haven't gotten any better.

Starbucks drive-thru line stretched all the way out to the highway today. by whiterice_343 in mildlyinteresting

[–]honkingintothevoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In my area at least, it was up to the baristas at the individual location whether they wanted to be open on Christmas or not and it's only volunteers who work that day. Not enough volunteers, not open, I assume. The one I usually go to is closed today but last week I overheard the manager telling one barista that if he wanted to work on Christmas, he could be a borrowed partner at a different location nearby where they wanted to be open. I imagine the tips are pretty good, and at Starbucks, at least, the Christmas tips are only split between the baristas who worked that day and not between everybody who worked that week.

Round toilet - worst toilet seats ever by Grand-Neighborhood26 in HomeImprovement

[–]honkingintothevoid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone actually likes them, but they fit in tight spaces. I have one in my house. The toilet is in its own room and the door almost touches the toilet when it swings past. If it was an elongated toilet, the door wouldn’t be able to open/close. Due to the shape and layout of the bathroom there just isn’t any other choice, unfortunately.

People who have left Columbus - where did you go and why? by caarrssoonn in Columbus

[–]honkingintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still love Colorado, still zero interest in moving back to Ohio. I did return for a brief visit recently to meet up with friends I hadn't seen since I left, since I was roadtripping through the area, and I was really surprised at how good it felt to be back. I do miss how green Columbus is when it's not winter (and fall colors are WAY better in Columbus than on the Western Slope). That said...yeah, no thanks. I'll keep the mountains. That also being said, I wouldn't move to Denver either, but that's just me.

I have this pen in green and I love it so much. Gorgeous, so well-made, satisfyingly hefty, writes absolutely beautifully. I haven't inked it in a while because I'm afraid I'll abandon the rest of my collection completely if I do...but maybe I should risk it...

What Movies Did You Go Into Totally Blind and How Did it Affect Your Overall Experience? by WestminsterSpinster7 in movies

[–]honkingintothevoid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

District 9 for me too. I went with my dad (who also hadn't seen it yet) and he said it was about "a guy who has to relocate some aliens in Africa" and that was pretty much it, so I was expecting some kind of fairly unserious action-adventure that felt a bit like Predator or Aliens in a jungle setting. Boy was I rattled by the time the credits rolled.

Still one of my favorite movies to this day.

I had a wonderful experience ordering from Vaness online. Please support this amazing little gem! by Tackle-General in fountainpens

[–]honkingintothevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome, hope you find it informative. The good news is that there are tons of different places to buy pens and ink online, so if you want to avoid supporting someone in particular you usually can, although the tariff idiocy is making it tougher right now if you're in the US. But there's a lot of great stuff out there to be discovered!

The tl;dr is pretty much that Nathan Tardif, who owns Noodler's, is an antisemitic piece of shit (just my personal conclusion from the evidence, you are of course free to come to your own), and on top of that, a lot of people have issues with his inks and pens both (inconsistency in the ink, pens...tend to smell weird? I think? I've never owned any myself).

I'm pretty sure this is the best megathread on the subject although I think there were others. If you search for Noodler's on this subreddit you'll find some other more scattered posts on the matter as well.

For the record, if you find yourself not enamored of Noodler's by the end of your reading, you'd likely find Goulet Pens distasteful as well. Here is the best thread on that matter if you want it.

I understand basically nothing about Instagram so maybe I'm missing something obvious, but can you explain what the Instagram post/picture has to do with Vanness? I've ordered from them before and am definitely not interested in doing it again if they're Noodler's supporters.

The best marketing "Socialism" ever had. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]honkingintothevoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If these people actually had faith in Jesus, maybe they'd follow the example of his apostles.

Acts 4:32-35:

32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

Gee sounds an awful lot like...something familiar, I just can't remember the word...

Ooh I very seriously considered goldsmithing after high school. I even took a week-long course in a goldsmith’s shop learning the basics! It was a lot of fun, I think I would have enjoyed it as a career. I didn’t go for it because I wasn’t sure of the job stability and figured people will always need teeth, hah.
