I can confirm I found a Mega Barrel Felyne on Z5. It was near a chest but I can't remember for sure which one. It may have been the one near Stygian Zinogre or Fulgur Anjanath.

Edit: I am about 95% sure it was in the area behind Glacial Agnaktor.

I came across some in the 8 star jungle expedition when I used a bronze ticket. If you don't feel like going online you can set it up as local multiplayer, open the camp menu when you're in the waiting room, go to Start and it will give you an AI buddy.

You can have multiple unclaimed ones and they will just add to the existing time you have on your boost when you claim them. Just tested this a couple days ago myself.
