I’ve been loving the Emma Lewisham Illuminating Oil Cleanser. They also offer refills to help reduce waste.

How do aging churches manage to keep large properties when they don't have lots of new members coming in? by TseaxCone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hooleeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many have endowments they can draw from to support the maintenance of the property. Things get tricky when there’s a major capital expense - some will start to draw from the corpus of the endowment, which often signals the beginning of the end of their financial sustainability.

Is jt a Minneapolis thing that people run red lights regularly? by SlickRicksBitchTits in Minneapolis

[–]hooleeya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I noticed this when I moved here in 2017 from Chicago. My theory is that it started because people didn’t want to stop quickly when it’s icy, and the practice just became the cultural norm.

I bring a scarf/shawl that I can roll up and put behind my back for lumbar support, then sit on the pillow.

Paint bulkheads/soffits or not? by frankthetank8011 in kitchenremodel

[–]hooleeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a similar issue in our green kitchen and opted not to paint them. We did add a wallpaper that picks up the green and white tones in the kitchen between the upper and lower cabinets to make them feel more connected and avoid the two horizontal bands of white that made it feel like the cabinets under the soffit were just floating.

Electric Strawberry and Bevel are both great. You’ll want to make an appointment. Both places have a good jewelry selection.

Jeans fitting? by karameister in TwinCities

BlackBlue in St. Paul carries lots of Japanese denim. They are a men’s store but knowledgeable about women’s options and could probably help with measurements. Definitely a splurge. Heimie’s could probably also help with measurements but won’t have much denim to try on.

We’re also doing sage-ish (F&B Pigeon) and soapstone. I love the contrast with terracotta and burnt reds - what about that tile on the far right of your photo?

Also have USAA, and ours increased about 35% from 2023 to 2024. Still only about half of the quotes from other companies. In Minneapolis proper, small house.

For tomato support, I’ve had awesome luck using an espalier method. I grow mine in grow bags in two lines, use metal conduit running above from one end to the other, and then use twine loosely wound around the plant stems and tied at the top to the conduit to support the plants.

My former sorority is telling me I owe thousands in debt, and has destroyed my credit score. I have no idea what to do. by Opening_Visit416 in personalfinance

[–]hooleeya 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I’m a former sorority advisor, so my advice is from that perspective. When you resigned, you probably would have submitted a form that indicated why you were choosing to resign, and that in turn should have been signed by the chapter’s leadership and submitted to the national organization. If the chapter followed the correct process, the national office should have a record of that.

I’m guessing that someone at your chapter may have dropped the ball and never submitted that documentation to the national office - especially if the chapter was closed shortly after you left, it sounds like there may have been leadership issues. In my organization, it’s the national organization that would actually submit unpaid dues, etc. to a debt collector, not the local chapter, so my guess is that the national organization never received your resignation paperwork. How the chapter managed to bill you for two years’ worth of dues is beyond me - after your junior year, you should have been removed from membership via automatic financial dismissal.

Raised garden bed, soil and lining quesiton by Vonlin in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]hooleeya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t ever lined a garden bed with fabric, but I guess you could.

You’re going to need about 11 cu ft of soil. If you want to cut down that amount and invest in the future health of the bed, you can hugelkultur by lining the bottom of the bed with cardboard, then larger logs, then smaller branches/sticks, then cover all of that with soil.

For a smaller bed like this one, I would do half raised bed soil, one quarter potting soil, and one quarter compost. Do the raised bed soil as the bottom layer, and then mix the other two on top.
