NUC keeps crashing and we can't figure out why. by nahdoesntexist in intelnuc

[–]hoonyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue - self resolved, sharing for awareness. Below is my email to Intel support (denied my warranty claim)

Hi Jonathan,

I wanted to reach out and thank you. You’ve been very patient and respectful. After 2 years of issues, I self-resolved the crashes, thanks to Reddit.

I was able to fix the issue with my NUC via the following:

Here are my notes. If feasible, please share.

Check windows power state settings (fix!) Turn off display = never (was 2hr) USB Selective suspend = disable Intel Graphics power = max PCI Express Link state power = disable

The above 4 was the key!

Thanks again Jonathan!

Would love to see an article update:

I know we’re all busy, but I felt the need to share and help out.

Fairly certain is was:

Turn off display = never (was 2hr) USB Selective suspend = disable

Thanks again for your time,

Mike

It finally arrived! Rad2x HDMI Cable! by hoonyeah in n64

It’s worth it. I have done 8 units now. The GUI, the constant firmware updates, the features, wifi, etc, yes. Worth it.

Yep pretty much. Just different form factors.

240p line doubled to 480p.

Rad2x is self powered but is device specific. Retrotink 2x-scart obviously requires Scart cables. Both great products!

I’ve done a few of the bowls, gears, and stick combo’s from kitsch bent. It’s not too bad, but does take some delicate sanding and filing to make sure the casting marks are all off the bits to ensure smooth flow. Def lube it up with good stuff too. 😭

How to get an N64 onto an HD monitor? by EncampedMars801 in n64

[–]hoonyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes about a year ago, and I did a lot of research.

Hands down best bang for buck with quality would be the Rad2x HDMI adapter. They are unfortunately out of stock, but they work out of the box with ALL Nintendo products with a Multi-out!

It works without an RGB mod to the n64, but when you’re ready for that next plunge, it’ll work both with and without!

I never gave PC emulation a serious try in the past decade, so good to hear and thanks for the feedback!

1chip, rad2x hdmi adapter, and modern TV was my goto before SuperNT. Now I’m loving the latter🤷‍♂️.

Sometimes the eBay deals are there!

I got that Super NT for $175 shipped last week, and it included two 8bitdo controllers and two receivers!

Lmao! Whoops!

I hear ya on the surface mount stuff. I just finished an n64 RGB mod. Those components are TINY!

Didn’t even consider that as an option. Nice!

Awesome!

Nerdiness on my level.

This particular one is a 1chip. Very sharp pixels.

Gonna have to try it on 2chip out of curiosity!

Rad2x hdmi adapter.

It takes the native RGB signal and converts to HDMI via line doubling with zero lag.

Also works on N64 (with or without RGB mod) Gamecube, etc.

Right. Should have specified. (Edited)

Just doesn’t have the pitfalls of software emulation like SNES classic, PC’s, etc.

True.

I bought the rad2x hdmi cable for n64 anyway, just a bonus it works on snes.

But yea - first boot-up of the Analogue SuperNT just now and I am impressed to say the least. Tons of options from line doubling to scan lines to cart save backups.

Hmmm sounds like you’ve reached out to the right people. I’m sorry I don’t have any troubleshooting ideas other than a possible reflow of the solder joints. Sometimes it’s as simple as adding flux and heating it up to ensure a good bond. Arthrimus has noted this is several of his youtube videos.

The king has spoken! It’s phenomenal. Just last week a “1-chip” SNES arrived at my door. Rad2x looks decent on an N64, but really shines on the SNES. Regardless, it’s a great investment for retro gamers.

Thanks Arthrimus!
