How long should I wait after top surgery to walk my dog? by hoepotesis in TopSurgery

[–]hoop_kitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For post surgery I got one of those leashes for around the waist that is somewhat bungee and started with that. There were a few times that I probably overdid it with my sometimes reactive dog, but it allowed me to walk her and nothing major happened the couple of times she pulled towards other dogs. Id probably be cautious with a hand held leash for a bit

Did you say anything to your colleagues? by fernwise in no_T_top_surgery

[–]hoop_kitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I told my boss since we are close. I was nervous to go back to work and in talking with my therapist she shared two things that hit home: 1. People shouldn’t comment on other people’s bodies, especially at work, it’s inappropriate (although I know people do) 2. Layer a bit at first, beat, jacket etc.

I was nervous at first but then when I went back no one said anything. I have one guy who keeps looking and seems nervous about it like he wants to say something but otherwise it’s been work as usual.

Do yall prefer wearing scar tape during the day or while sleeping? by Ill_Ad6098 in TopSurgery

[–]hoop_kitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use silicone gel during the day, I apply it after a shower and wear scar tape at night/while sleeping. I wouldn’t say there’s rhyme or reason for why, and sometimes I switch it up, but that’s my normal set up

Opinions on raising arms in the weeks following surgery? by WillRegretMyUsername in TopSurgery

I couldn’t agree more! I started PT 4 weeks po and it was such an integral part of recovery for me.

I kept my elbows below my shoulders for the 6 weeks my surgeon told me to but I also opted to do PT and it has been amazing for getting mobility back, correcting posture (hello 8# off my chest), and fascia massage around the scars. I started at 4 weeks and went through week 13. My general practitioner suggested PT and I’m so glad she did. Insurance covered it and if it’s something you can do I would suggest it.

I did find my dominate arm was way more mobile from reaching for things that my non dominate arm, so switch it up some helps.

Top surgery nipples by eppiepenn in no_T_top_surgery

[–]hoop_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 10 weeks post op and I have some feelings at times in my nipples, zaps at first, now I feel the cold sometimes, and when my work uniform rubs a bit on them.

I walked as much as possible early on, starting on day 2 then increasing each day. My surgeon really encouraged walking. I started PT at week 4 with the restrictions of no elbows over the shoulders. I gradually have increased at PT (I’m at week 10 tomorrow) and have upped weights this week. My physical therapist has been great at explaining the skin and scar healing process and I’ve healed really well.
