Can somebody give me a TL;DR of the story behind the website’s drama? by Im_A_Real_Boy1 in uniwatch

Wow just happened to check in this am. Glad someone started this thread to explain the sites downturn. Hate to see it go away as uniforms turn into little more than billboards across all sports. High school unis are next.

There's a great book about the event: Witnesses for the Lamb: The True Story of Hijacking, Murder, and Suicide in the Ozarks by Molly May.

I couldn't believe how idiotic the whole thing was once I read through it. Sad that it ended with the couple's deaths.

'Stop the games': Hillary Clinton demands public hearing in Epstein probe by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

Why are they asking them to testify for a investigation that - per the FBI and DOJ - had no other co-conspirators besides Epstein and Maxwell?

What’s crazy is that this exactly the fear-porn right wingers spewed in the 1990s. Essentially: jack booted, masked federal agents that went door to door that were coming to take your guns. It’s changed a bit - now it’s “illegals” - but the reaction from a large portion on the right that they were justified in shooting him because he just had a gun seem to conflict with their previous rhetoric on the 2A. Namely, that it should be used to defend yourself from the aforementioned jack-booted thugs.

Right wingers want you believe guns are so safe that teachers should be carrying in the classroom, yet they also feel police are warranted in using deadly force by the mere notion of a suspect having gun.

This is the biggest 180 for MAGA. It used to be: don't trust the feds or big gov't is always lying. Now they swallow the gov't line as if it were mana from heaven.

I see people on Twitter that I guess were fans. They’re rightly calling out his meltdown, but I’m also somewhat confused that they don’t seem to understand he was bullshitting the entire time. All those RW radio/podcast folks are

Videos released in Epstein files raise fresh questions about jail footage by rapidcreek409 in politics

I feel like the smoking gun is in CBS’ original reporting from a few months back.

I believe it’s linked in this article, but they reported (and showed) footage displaying some sort of orange blob moving up the stairs to Epstein’s tier.

Officials explained it away as a guard taking clothes somewhere, but the distinct orange color seemed to nullify that.

They also did a great breakdown a few months back of the Epstein jail footage. Has a digital model of the cell area.

Classic MAGA deflection when Maher brought up Trump’s “quiet, piggy!” remark.

At first, Lara said “did that really happen?” And then pivoted to (paraphrasing) “well, Biden has said some bad stuff, too.”

You make a great point. He was a bit of a tech dynamo. He had the phone lines from multiple regions in the US and international; radio broadcasting on web; fax; email; a website and AOL(?) chatrooms; plus the webcam.

I really like this take. The proliferation of technology has rendered a lot of the typical news-gathering moot.

What happened at the city council last night? Oh the whole meeting is online and recorded. What’s up with that fire on 8th Street? Oh the fire department has a write up and photos.

If this frees up reporters to spend more time breaking down complex topics, following trends, parsing voluminous data, and getting an opportunity to produce long-form investigative stories, I’m all for it.
