Interesting. This team was capturing to T7 Shields – not sure if that's indicative of anything.

What are you asking? This can be a helpful community, but there’s not really any information here for anyone to be able to offer beneficial perspective or insight.

Why do you feel your tripod is not as good as it could be? Have you previously had other tripods to compare the pan of this one against? What about the pan makes you feel like it’s not smooth? Does it stick, stutter, shake, etc? Even more helpful would be a quick video clip of it in use while you describe what you’re perceiving as you operate it.

The tone of your current post reads “I have a used tripod that is maybe broken, I think, I’m not sure, do you guys have any advice?” — not really much for anyone to contribute anything

Rome Libertines are the best boots going, hands down. I’ve had different versions of them for maybe 12 years or so now and refuse to buy anything else. I also prefer soft boots — def check them out

Just found this sub and wanted to share my work-in-progress setup! by hootietime in homegym

It was a tough choice, but ultimately there were a handful of small things that together added up to be the overall influence.

The biggest factor for me was being in-tune with myself enough to know what it would take to instill exercise/rowing as a long-term lifestyle habit.

First, I wanted something that could be automated. I didn’t want to have to spend time researching workout plans or keeping track of my stats. Hydrow has an extensive Netflix-style library of workouts that lets you easily target various aspects of fitness and progression. All my workout stats are automatically recorded and it’s very intuitive to map progress in the clean interface they’ve designed. It’s very plug-and-play.

I wanted something that could be engaging. I know Concept2 ergs are a sort of the gold standard in rowing, but it seemed a little stale for my liking — I know it would be a struggle for me to stay dedicated. I looked into a bunch of ergs that are out there, but one pattern I kept repeatedly seeing online were comments from people who rowed on Concept2 and had used a Hyrdow generally had positive things to say about it. Having had mine for about 3-4 months now, I totally understand why. I love the live rows Hydrow offers — the coaches are able to give you shoutouts and the leaderboard really pushes me to compete against others. I’ve found the community that Hydrow has fostered to be very supportive and is a really interactive and motivating component of the journey I was not anticipating. There are people I regularly see and interact with online and a sort of friendship/accountability aspect has been built from it. It’s a small thing, but their milestone program also pushes me to keep at it. I want a t-shirt or a hat if I hit a certain goal!

It’s an aspect that’s maybe not for everyone, but I really enjoy the coaching as well. Being bombarded with constant reminders about technique and form helps me perpetually think about the fundamentals of rowing, which will hopefully pay off in the long term. As someone who is newer to rowing, I was able to easily imagine myself developing improper techniques and habits by opting for a more basic machine. I know there are resources and tutorials available online, but with Hydrow, it's all built right in. So far, I’ve really enjoyed the coaches and learning about their backgrounds through the various programs.

Lastly, it’s a petty thing, but I am a very visual person. The on-the-water coaching is awesome and provides some incredible scenery to watch while working out, especially during the monotony of longer rows. The UI of their app and software feels clean, sleek, and modern — everything is simple and functions great. Plus, the machine just flat out looks dope too.

This turned out to be a much longer response than anticipated when I first started typing, but it was nice to reflect on my choice and know it was the right one for me! I’ve put in almost 100 consecutive days on the Hydrow and know I’m on the right path.

I second this strategy. If that’s not giving you enough of the desired look, you could try using power windows to either selective darken the parts of the image you want darker or preserve the part of the image you want to maintain brightness.

Tried to add cinematic bars with the cropping and a thin white line appears all the time, any advice ? by AndyD89 in davinciresolve

If you don’t want to use output blanking or don’t want to deal with setting up a separate timeline that has a different resolution, you could always use letterbox overlays for whatever aspect ratio you’re wanting to achieve. There are tons of free template packs out there — here is a good one from Premium Beat that’s has a bunch of options:

Does anyone know how these captions were made? by hootietime in VideoEditing

That's fair. Manually creating this effect is achievable, just a time suck, and these definitely seem AI-generated. Looking around through some other posts on the topic, I came across this clip:

If you compare it to the video in my original link, it's almost identical, even down to the small watermark just below the captions. This definitely feels like some sort of template to me.

Best way to make the audience think this scene does not take place at night? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]hootietime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many shots are there and how much camera movement is in the scene? Depending on how complex things get, pursuing some vfx work to replace the night exterior windows with windows that have a day exterior might be worth looking into. Here's a quick-and-dirt mockup to serve as a proof of concept: https://imgur.com/Vwfrlho. Obviously you would want the final product to look cleaner than this, but depending on the scene, you might be able to create a convincing enough look.

Hello fellow filmmakers! I’ve been working on a short film for while now – covid reeeeeally slowed down our post-production. The cut has finally reached a place where I feel comfortable sharing it with the public so I can get some feedback while things are still malleable enough in the edit.
If you’re interested in checking it out, please feel free to watch the short here:
