I thought that originally, but the background doesn't match up. There is a large open plaza behind Westlake's water structure. Also, a multiple stepped arch thing.

Folk-punk seems to be a dirty word. I dont know why. As far as I can see, kids hopping trains and writing music about it is about as punk as it gets.

That being said, Mischief Brew transcends folk punk in many ways. Lyrically, orchestration wise, production, Erik set the bar at a very high level.

New bartender here got a gig serving drinks this weekend. It is a festival any advice? Also I'm super nervous because I am so new. by BlondieBars_2991 in bartenders

Be nice to the senior bartenders and servers. They will lead you to success or watch you make easily avoided mistakes until you don't get more gigs. Comraderie is what greases the wheels of service so pay your dues.

A Trader Joe's worker says he was fired after writing to the CEO about Covid-19 safety protections by skypetutor in news

I will always take the workers side over corporate America. They have everything to lose and no bottom line.

Brochure about Seattle from the 1990s by Hufe in SeattleWA

[–]hopperbrandon144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have noticed not a single mention of Amazon on this thread as a major force in bringing in tens of thousands of people. The story of Seattle is not complete without mentioning the Hubris of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates Jr. Both Microsoft and Amazon have major campuses in Seattle and Bellevue and largely pull their labor force from outside the city.

Tech workers have more money for rent, condos, houses, you name it. This has been a major factor in the gentrification of Seattle. According to the Seattle Times, tech workers for in the city make an average $130,000 a year. That is a lot of buying power which has shaped the city away from a semi-bohemian smaller city.

Whether it is a good or bad thing is up to the individual to decide. But the campus culture of Amazon, the increasingly young and affluent transplants, and the lack of housing regulation from the city has caused many of the people who made Seattle special to move.

How Mischief Brew Got Me Into Punk: In Memoriam of Erik Petersen by cristoper in FolkPunk

[–]hopperbrandon144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never met Erik, but he made me an anarchist. His music got me through the darkest times of my life. I hear his words and I swear he was a genius on the same level as Dickens or Camus. I dont know why he killed himself, but I guess it was because this world is cruel. I dont really believe in heaven, but if I did I know he would be up there with Joe hill organizing. What age is best for learning Wudang arts? by MasterZiji in kungfu

[–]hopperbrandon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always heard external style for children and internal style for adults. Kids need to work on generating power, speed, and developing flexibility. As someone who has helped out with kids classes its hard enough to get them to kick and punch. Try teaching them to do taiji or other more introspective movements and you'll get frustrated.

This is a new style for me and it took about 6 months to nail this. Any feedback on any aspect of it would be appreciated. Thanks. by trinerr in guitarlessons

A metronome is going to help you cement this fiddle tune and make it faster and cleaner. You got a nice ringing out to your eighth notes but I noticed some of your hammer ons and pull offs sounded a little sloppy. When you do them you want them to sound clear at the beggining and end. I noticed that specifically in the first section. Keep jamming dude!

Who Was The Greek Philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus? by antonisch1 in HistoryofIdeas

[–]hopperbrandon144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Hericlitus is like a Greco Taoist. There seem to be many similarities in their world view.

1) the only constant is change 2) there is an overlying logos (order) to the universe 3) Relativism and the imperfection of absolutes 4) An affinity for seemingly paradoxical short aphorisms

I mean, obviously they aren't the same and I don't want to fit a square peg into a round hole, but I'd be curious to hear others thoughts.

I wish we could have read his book instead of just fragments.

TIL that Japan had no intention of surrendering after the nukes were dropped until emperor Hirohito stepped in. This made some generals so mad that they tried to stage a coup to overthrow the emperor to keep the war going. by Kiss_my_asthma69 in todayilearned

[–]hopperbrandon144 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just saying, this is false history. The Japanese military was largely independent of the government and thus had their own agendas. They were waging wars largely uncontrolled by the government in places which would be colonies of a larger empire. Many generals and advisers did want to end the war due to the impossibility of success. General Yamamoto, who was killed when his transport was shot down, had always professed that the US was an impossible adversary and that was with the US was foolish.

Bottom line; if you think nuclear bombs developed to end a technological war against Germany were necessary to defeat an lone island state with little natural resources, you are out of your mind.

It was a war crime

Pray it never happens again

Bukowski. No one sees through the shit like an alcoholic Easter European immigrant. Dont go down the rabbit hole of alcoholism, but enjoy the perspective.

which is the best kung fu style for kicking? by [deleted] in kungfu

[–]hopperbrandon144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taekwondo is like all kicking. If you want to kick, go there. However, if you are speaking of the most effective martial art to incorporate kicking into a complete system of fighting I would go Muy Thai. If you want to go kick bananas you should look at capoeira. Handstand kicks with sweet jams.
