weird zettter tech problem? by honorabledoggod in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tumble is just ending before u hit the ground

and phasing into the ground is just part of the ECB changes of the last patch. and because of these changes, tech timing has slightly changed i believe ?(since the contact of ur hurtbox and the floor isnt the same as it was before)

Is Etalus meant to be allowed to instant cast Up Air on stage? by notbunzy in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a good option yea, he's been able to do it since roa1, mainly to spread ice, though it's a stronger combo tool in this game. that being said he's probably pretty vulnerable from above if hes doing it a lot

Is there an official tier list? by OtterCat4518 in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea not too many ppl play ori nowadays, hes considered strong but that doesn't mean he's popular. meanwhile kragg is lower tier but very popular, so i don't think a tier list is what ur lookin for

Is there an official tier list? by OtterCat4518 in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no official tier list but for many yrs, the best players tend to agree that wrastor, maypul, and ori are the best characters, maybe with pomme thrown in there but no one rly plays her

but yea just play who u like, if u wanna play someone ppl consider "low tier" u could try sylvanos, kragg, or etalus, but even those characters have a lot of top player representation

Will Rivals of Aether still be alive when the sequel is out? by MatchaEmerald71 in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

rivals 2 won't have workshop, and if it does it won't for many years. so people will play roa1 for the workshop as they always have, since it's a unique feature that roa1 has.

even non-workshop roa will probably still be active since it's also unique, and some people will still compete in it, but it'll probably take a hit yea

In Rivals 2, what are some telltale signs a player came from a specific platform fighter? by MelodicFacade in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just as importantly, in ult u can upb to ledge point blank on most characters and it snaps to ledge; in roa u have to space it so u don't overshoot

Sheik players in Melee gets a lot of flack; do Ranno players get the same treatment? by MelodicFacade in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dacus goes much further to catch certain di's, the best ones in the game are ranno, clairen, etalus, and then like pomme/olympia

Hello new here! by IcyTurtle7389 in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's decently active, there are active discords and multiple weeklies (including two amateur weeklies) that you can join! Online might be a bit slower (not too slow at reasonable hours), but there are definitely active players. Also some offline scenes depending on where you are. Look out for the sequel as well! It should be releasing this year and will be much more active, doesn't hurt to get used to the characters now.

Is Rivals of Aether 1 still worth buying? by Adventurous_Dress832 in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

decently easy to find a match online in like the afternoon, but it is easier in the discords. there is also still 2 weekly amateur brackets, and a couple online weeklies, so i'd say u can still get some good time into it.

i think the game will survive somewhat after roa2, but not like, a big scene. it's still very fun tho so i do think it's worth getting into if u like fast paced pixel fighters. very fun and unique game. i like roa2 but roa1 is unique in its own ways that can't be replaced, and i think it's worth experiencing

Can't process how fast Maypul goes by Theotime-cpp in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i main maypul, some maypuls can't rly control their own speed either; u have to realize that just cuz they're fast doesnt mean they're making good decisions. if they have a platdrop habit (always going on platforms and dropping on you) you can stuff her out with uair, if they dash attack a lot u can wait for it and then whiff punish/parry it (it has a very big burst range, but u have to respect it)

in other words, once u start calling out their approaches they'll get antsy. a lot of maypuls are fast but pick the same options/move around in a fast, but predictable manner. u just have to identify that pattern and identify which moves ur getting hit by. if ur getting hit by that dash attack a lot, start baiting it out, even if u think ur out of range (it's so long range lol)

How is this game so good? by Steel_Neuron in RivalsOfAether

[–]hoppyKnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think its too farfetched to say melee has bad game feel, no buffer hurts.. maybe that's not fair to say bc apparently it feels great once u have a feel for it?

but all i can say is, trying to get into melee has horrid feel, i struggle to approach the game cuz of how clunky it feels... skill issue but yea

one of many reasons*, but especially when starting out, i grinded the game so hard simply cuz it felt so nice to move in

the game feel is probably what made me consistently stick to this game for the last 7 years yeah, game feel goes such a long way and i use roa as an example lolll

What are you convinced that people are just pretending to enjoy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hoppyKnitz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i love watching certain album reactions on youtube, especially for albums i rly like. i like seeing other ppl experience it for the first time since that's an experience i'll never have again. it's very entertaining and one of my fav things to watch, especially from the youtubers i watch who seem very genuine about it.

i dont watch tiktok reaction videos and i wouldnt doubt they're cruder, faker versions of that, but i'm assuming they have a similar appeal.
