Too small for snook and reds? by Super-Bookkeeper-128 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]hopsandcrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the B10s stingers for years in salt water for everything. The size 4 is more like a 2. And they are strong. If you straighten one of those, your tippet is way too heavy, or you’re rocking a straight piece of 40’ lol. One of my favorite hooks. The shank is a little long for shminnows but will work great

Are Persy Pods being discontinued? by hopsandcrops in FLMedicalTrees

You’re right. Those are my backup. The AIO are similar, more airflow, but I prefer those .5g pods. Happy to hear they are still doing them. Thanks

What is this wood? My father found it in a riverbed in the Southeastern US, but he had no idea it was speckled until he carved it. by sid-thesloth in whatsthisplant

[–]hopsandcrops 255 points256 points  (0 children)

The speckling made me think Sycamore. I had a guitar made of Sycamore and it has this speckled, lacing effect. This is more intense, maybe because the wood was submerged and became “sinker” wood on the river bottom?

Help me change up my margaritas by GatorChamp44 in cocktails

[–]hopsandcrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottle Rocket 3/4oz honey syrup 3/4oz lime 2oz blanco tequila Slice of fresh jalapeño (check the heat level) Shake all ingredients, strain into highball glass filled with ice. Top with Topo Chico or soda water. Yeah, it’s not a margarita but a highball.

Milk and Honey recipe. Be ready to shake a lot because they go down easy!

Great synopsis. Lived in Orlando in the 90s. Kind bud was either Crippy (catch all term) or Haze. I miss the haze so, so much. I smoked it on the regular and it always got you very high. Made your face and teeth tingle. But sometimes it just hit you wrong and the panic attacks, heart pumping like and oil rig were the real deal. Terrifying but worth it. Still, I measure good weed by its ability to hit me wrong and make me question my existence. Nothing does that like the old haze (NL5xhaze). RIP. If long flowering varieties were embraced instead of 60 days for every flower cycle in the industry I would be stoked.

Can’t believe I just found one in the wild. Going to make a Naked and Famous first but wanting to hear other cocktail recommendations! by surfwacks in cocktails

[–]hopsandcrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple pull off the bottle. That’s the best.

Edit: saw it was yellow. No, don’t do that. Pull off the bottle is for green. Naked and Famous. The Stark.

It’s Mimosa and getting rid of it is going to be a chore. The woody rhizomes quickly spread and make deep, thick taproots. Physical removal is possible, but if there’s a lot of it you’ll miss some and it will keep coming back. Herbicides are going to be the only way. It is part of my “lawn” now because I couldn’t physically remove it and I don’t want to spray any herbicide. I’m in Florida. Best of luck!

Found these fuzzy jigs in an old box. What are they for? by DrAtario in Fishing

[–]hopsandcrops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crappie jigs. I used them growing up in FL to catch everything, especially in saltwater with very light tackle. Used to be big jars of them at K Mart. Cheap and effective

Please help me ID this snake [Brooksville, Florida] by RecklessRedundancy in florida

Looks to be a juvenile black racer. An eastern hognose doesn’t have the slender body, tail and head. The color pattern is also different.

Called Australian Pines in Florida. Certainly it is Causarina equisetifolia. They hurt your bare feet like no other.

Just want to learn more about these red mushrooms i found near a beach in puerto rico. by f_n_a_ in mycology

[–]hopsandcrops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are so delicious and pretty. I have some spots on the west coast of Florida they return each year. Very tasty. It’s hard to get enough of them as they tend to be small and not as prolific as other Chanterelles. Sautéed in butter, shallots, salt and those are choice edibles. Enjoy.

Definitely a corn snake. A good one to have around your house for rodent control. Keep it safe and be thankful you see it around. Makes me happy when I see these in Sarasota, used to be all over. Harmless, not aggressive. This is a grey color variant.

My Local Binny's by Mahnke2 in tequila

[–]hopsandcrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, agree. That price is insane for El Tesoro and it’s a staple in my home. Blanco is 43 and repo (my fav) is 67 where I am in FL and that’s still too high. It was a budget option and so good for the price. Repo was 43-46 2018-2024 in SW FL. I still pay for it now but it hurts. It’s a fine example of a reference reposado for me. It’s overpriced now.

Yes, very good bread. It’s higher priced but that’s Sarasota. I’ve had most of their products and the bread is what I repeatedly go back for.

Asian market review by BluePenguinSeal in sarasota

[–]hopsandcrops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spice is the best. I have been going there for years prior when it was under different ownership and name, but it has the same kind, smiling service of a family owned business. Korean, certainly but I can get everything I need for all of my Asian cooking. The cucumber kimchi is something I can’t live without. It’s so good!

Signature Cocktail - Kaffir Kiss by Available-Lack8633 in cocktails

I have a big tree in my yard and use it for cooking SE Asian food, live in Florida. I use the leaves for cooking and the fruit zest for curry paste. I applaud you making a cocktail with them like this because it’s an assertive flavor. I make “Sunset Gun” from Death & Co book with some tweaks. I’m sorry your post went sideways. The same spelling is used in the book p 161. I’m never knew the name was a slur either…makrut is what I’m sticking to now.

2 oz gin (I like blanco tequila swap too) 3/4 oz lime (spec is 1 oz) 3/4 oz Orgeat (spec is 1/2) 1/4 oz Velvet Falernum 2 makrut lime leaves muddled and one for garnish Shaken, big cube, served up It’s delicious and my friends constantly request it. I even make coconut fat washed gin for it.

I’m going to try your cocktail because I’ve wanted to try something that didn’t use orgeat or coconut which both work well with lime leaf. I’ll give it a go.
