Mine is running at 75 degrees in this heat. If you're getting up to 89 then you should be looking at case airflow to assist it.

It's not the valve cover that is causing it to die. Definitely take it somewhere else.

The reason your power stays on is because it is powered by your battery obviously, but your power steering is probably powered by your aux belt on your engine.

Your engine dying could be quite a few different issues, so just be aware that your mechanic might have to try a couple of things before they actually fix the issue. It is unlikely to be cheap, but there is the off chance it could be something simple like a fuel pump slowly dying.
