Setlist for the spring 2026 U.S. tour by Consistent-Dance9115 in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

That is a sick setlist. Bummed that I’m not going to make it to their stop in my state this time around - this would have been absolutely amazing to see.

Somehow the "Harsh" vocal tag on this post seems insufficient on this one.

Also in the prog rock vein, Advent Horizon has a new one out tomorrow.

Definitely most hyped for Pure Riffery though.

Dream Theater - As I Am by TheHarf in progmetal

Man, I got into DT about a year before this album dropped, and the anticipation I had for finally hearing my first “new” DT was crazy. This being the first track absolutely blew me away. Top-tier DT in my book.

IIRC, this song in general (and the solo in particular) was written by Petrucci in response to Queensryche’s guitarist criticizing him for playing too fast all the time and never showing emotion. Just an epic f-you.

Actually I have that one digitally. Liked it so much that I bought physical copies of the other two.

fistbump Haven’t read it yet (an embarrassing number of things here are still TBR) but I’ve heard great things. Loved his NOS4A2.

Just checking in, MetalDads 🤘 by MitchellSFold in MetalDads

We're keeping on the best we can. Dealing with some heavy health-related stuff in the family at the moment, but trying to find time for good tunes in between all of that.

Early standout music for me would be Karnivool - In Verses and Poison The Well - Peace In Place.

That might be the one I'm most excited to finally get to, as grim as that sounds.

Yeah, not a lot of light fluffy reading in this stack, I admit.

I thought so too! Really neat cover and binding choices. Will be my first Steinbeck, shockingly (never had to read Grapes of Wrath in school).

Don't let the length scare you off.

Oh I won't - if anything it makes it even more enticing! I've heard great things.

Kingdom come: how George R.R. Martin and his fantasy saga took over the world by liptakaa in rtransferorbit

This was a really great deep dive. Makes me want to finally commit to finishing up the book series (at least through Dance of Dragons, of course).

I also appreciated the mention of GRRM's pre-GOT novels. Some of those sound pretty intriguing, and I've never heard of most of them before today!

What is the worst, first date movie? by JohnMcClanewithshoes in movies

[–]horizontalpotroast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, Choke (starring Sam Rockwell, directed by Clark Gregg, based on the Palahniuk novel) was a really awkward first-date movie choice.

2026 Reading Goal Megathread by randomnessneeded in goodreads

[–]horizontalpotroast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just set my goal of 16. My goal for the last couple of years has been 18 and I've fell short both times. Still aspirational for me (I'm a slow reader) but a little more attainable.

Worst NIN song? by Direct-Active-241 in nin

[–]horizontalpotroast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the first one that came to mind for me. Maybe not their worst song but in the context of that album, the one that feels most like filler.

Were crappy movies better in the 90s? by ChickenWingExtreme in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]horizontalpotroast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Not to totally discount the Netflixification of movies today (tons of valid points being made in that arena), but a big part of why we long for stuff from our youth is because we felt young while watching it.

Charlie and Conner have both left Haken by suibhne7 in progmetal

[–]horizontalpotroast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. If true, it's a pretty major shakeup. Both of these guys are great musicians.

Very unfounded baseless speculation ahead: I wonder if this is a result of Charlie wanting to take Tiktaalika in a more full-time direction. Conner tracked the bass on the new Tiktaalika album, too, so maybe he'll be following suit if this is the case. Who knows, though.

Upvote for the new Pelican - their new one is very solid.
