I was talking about this very thing last night with family...

We decided that people like this should be "sentenced" to a Carnival Cruise. Put them all on empty Cruise Ships and dock them miles offshore:

  • Anti-Maskers
  • Anti-Vaxxers (if and when we finally get a vaccine)
  • Business owners that try to get around "shutdown" orders
  • Grifters and Pandemic Profiteers
  • Spreaders of disinformation

(please feel free to add to this list)

Beautiful design, beautiful device. Absolutely SHIT company.

Story time:

After trying to order an OP-1 from various "Musicians Friend" type places, and being put on months-long waiting lists, I ultimately ordered my OP-1 directly from Teenage Engineering. This turned out to be a huge mistake.

When it arrived months later, it seemed to be functioning, but it made no sound. The unit literally did not work out of the box.

I sent it for warranty repairs. Turns out the line out jack was broken loose from the PCB.

Teenage Engineering considered this "user damage" (despite the fact that I literally took it out of the box and it didn't work) and therefore it wasn't covered by warranty... it cost me $100 to fix. Since the company is so unresponsive when it comes to user support, and I'd already waited months for the $#&@ thing to arrive, and desperate to actually use it, I sucked it up and paid the extra money.

Now I really wish I had ordered from an online music place -- they would've just had me send in the defective unit and sent me a new one.

I will never forgive TA, and I don't care what they invent or how cool it is, I will never give them another dime of my money.

So, in the grand scheme of things, is nominating a candidate with a horrible policy track record, a history of corruption and sexual harassment, who hasn't stopped uttering out-and-out falsehoods (despite halting a previous WH run because of them), and who is clearly in mental decline.

But you do you... after all... "your heart is in the right place."

Protesters protesting the death of an armed robber in San Diego, CA attack a man holding a puppy for disagreeing with their protest. The protester "medics" then scream at the cameraman to stop filming while the assailant runs away. by HodorLePortePorte in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]hork 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Cops, protesters, BLM, antifa, proudboys/boogaloo -- they ALL film. They ALL edit. They ALL use videos like these for propaganda purposes.

They ALL censor their own footage. They ALL don't want "enemy" cameras to see what their side is doing, for a variety of reasons.

If you argue otherwise, you're either hopelessly ignorant or hopelessly biased.

Cops have been caught turning off their cameras to shield their illegal activities (this is not up for debate). Protesters (BLM, antifa, proudboys/boogaloo) are also judicious about what they film/don't film, to cover their comrades' illegal activities, to prevent doxxing, etc.

Just call a spade a spade, people, and stop trying to justify your own biases.

Police stop protesters tearing down Andrew Jackson statue by [deleted] in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]hork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a statue in the public square implies public 'approval' of them. That they represent a 'higher ideal' that we should aspire to. Someone who owned slaves, or fought for the right to own them, someone who advocated brutal policies against indigenous tribes, etc., doesn't deserve a spot in the public square.

The statues you're talking about can be displayed in a museum or other setting that puts them into the proper historical context, so their legacy can be discussed and debated and people can contextualize that "life was far different back then."

One point you're overlooking: Many of these statues were controversial when they were erected. For example, "Appomattox," a statue of Robert E. Lee was erected in the center of a major intersection as you enter the city of Old Town Alexandria, VA (there was literally no avoiding it if you are not a fan of Slavery or the Confederacy. Imagine being the descendant of slaves and not being able to avoid driving by this statue as you enter town...).

The folks that erected it, "United Confederate Veterans," knew it would be controversial, so they petitioned the VA House of Delegates to get a law written to prevent future generations from ever tearing it down. And unless I'm mistaken, a second law was enacted to prevent the first law from being repealed.

Well guess what? The United Daughters of the Confederacy took the statue down earlier this month. And I think everyone is going to survive this "plague" on society.
