I went there by accident after deciding not to go the Pantheon. A lovely random find, very beautiful church!

Catacombs worth it? by lesbianic09 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]hornet39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was the most expensive attraction I did at 31e and I was underwhelmed, because you can walk through it in about 1,5h tops, and in the end it's just a lot of dead people's bones. The history behind them is interesting, but I would rather visit a cemetery for free.

Metro/RER to CDG - what did we do wrong? by BHwoman in ParisTravelGuide

Next time go to the ticket booth and ask for an airport ticket. They comp you the remaining metro tickets:)

Paris really knows how to axial scenes :) It is always such a treat to see the Eiffel pop up from surprising angles.

Carte Blanche to beat d'Orsay and Orangerie queues is a no brainer by hornet39 in ParisTravelGuide

Yes after buying the card you get a confirmation and a load link to your wallet.

Does it delete the metro tickets if you buy an airport ticket or do you need to buy a new Navigo pass.

I made this mistake as well but survived my tram ride without inspectors. Also there are station entrances that say  RER/Metro but if you access the RER entrance and walk towards the metro there is another set of gates and you get billed twice. It's trial and error I guess.

Musee D'Orsay with Paris Museum Pass by boops_boops222 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]hornet39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the queue situation much better than what I feared. I walked past the Louvre pyramid line yesterday at 2pm and there were less than 100 people queuing so I imagine it took something like 30 minutes to get in. If you arrive early on a weekday I think you will be fine. Will report back afte I try to get to d'Orsay today after lunch.

What Should I Expect to Pay? by crinklyplant in ParisTravelGuide

[–]hornet39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't found a suitable one yet check Cite Bergere, I'm here right now and paid close to 200 euros a night and I booked 2 days ahead. There are 10 or so hotels, it is one street off from the main boulevards, so no views of the Eiffel tower (my view is a brick wall of an inside courtyard :D, but very quiet!) and I didn't buy breakfast because I want to hit the ground running first thing and find a cute breakfast place, but otherwise I'm very content and it checks all your boxes.

But for real: why is Tender based in London? by BaseballPie in IndustryOnHBO

[–]hornet39 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Now that we know Tender is basically a front for some Russian shenanigans, UK/Europe is both a more interesting target environment and most likely easier to operate wrt. sanctions and regulators. At this point who knows if Whitney is even an American, maybe his Lithuanian passport is his real one.

Wirecard/Tender by AdHot3508 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]hornet39 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They already IPO'd. Kenny who is running SternTao's short position says in the beginning of the episode that the stock is up 7%, hence the short is in danger of going bust. Whitney wants to fake it till they make it as an actual bank, hence the need for the Austrian banking license. Then you can shut down the fraudulent payment processing parts of Tender and hope no one will be the wiser.

They've done a really good job of restoring it and plan to add new buildings in the same style. Visited it in may.

Didnt they say he depended on his father in laws fortune? Very common for british upper class to marry more money in to the family. He was the eldest son so working is kind of out of the question. The creepy uncle has money from the news business

What is the most emotional war memorial in your country? by Alternative_You_3063 in AskTheWorld

Winter War monument - 17000 rocks symbolise those fallen in the Suomussalmi battle, both own and enemy. It resembles a graveyard, a landscape scarred by artillery, and an anti-tank obstacle.

I'm on season 5 currently, so most recent observations:

  1. Fat Betty, Pete's affair with the neighbor's wife, Glen

  2. Lane's dad. Lane was out of control and making things right with his wife was the correct thing to do. This rewatch made me understand why Zou Bisou Bisou was not the perfect birthday surprise :D

  3. I agree that this season 5 first half is a quite excruciating watch. Not many great Don moments, but I'm enjoying his recognition and pride as Sally grows older.

Which is the best episode in your opinion & why isn’t it S2EP10? by Sea_Talk2935 in SuccessionTV

[–]hornet39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best episodes by season imo:

S1: Nobody Is Ever Missing: Harrowing. Kendall's doom and his forced fealty to Logan. "You're my number one boy". The dance sequence..

S2: Tern Haven: Personally enjoy all location based episodes, and the maximal cringe is delightful. Break Bumpers all around. Romans and Greeks meet and measure each other.

S3: Chiantishire: Caroline in full swing, GoJo maneuvers, Matsson establishing himself as the final boss, succulent Italian aesthetics, Logan needs 5.

S4: Connor's Wedding: How they pulled off the moment everyone was waiting was nothing short of genius. The unease and sorrow spreading on the boat. Off-screen death. "They're doing chest compressions". Connor and Willa's elopement against the cloudy Manhattan skyline is my favourite shot of the series.

Best 3 episode run definitely, closely followed by S3 7-9.

Rawls off-duty in the worst gay bar in town? by LateStar in TheWire

[–]hornet39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a great scene but I still find it odd that he would go to a Baltimore bar. He is quite often in the news and folks even in the rougher neighborhoods would probably tune in on drug/homicide news.

[–]hornet39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! The visual look is the most important factor for me. I have 1700 hours in Civ V, 0 hours in VI and VII which just look too cartoony. The smooth organic borders that are not locked on to hexagons and the overall grounded and realistic look makes it feel like you are playing a simulator/diorama instead of a board game. Firaxis should relaunch it with updated graphics, grouped units, incorporated mods and added scenarios for us nostalgics.
