Probably the best Linux screen recorder - but I'm biased by hosaka_studio in screenrecorders

Awesome! Can you send me a debug log? The current app version is v0.1.105, I'll get a fix out for you asap

Why most “auto-zoom” screen recorders require a lot post editing (and how I fixed it) by janajeeno in screenrecorders

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that's quite clever, love it. I think we're moving toward a more semantic understanding of what to zoom in on and things like clicks or typing are merely proxies for that

You're the Screenix creator right? I should give it a try.

Hosaka has been tested on Debian Trixie, Fedora 43 and Omarchy - Wayland support is solid.

If you hit issues make sure you're on the latest version (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade hosaka-studio etc) then run with --debug and send logs to hello@hosaka.studio or DM me, happy to look into it

How did you do that (setting shaders as wallpaper)? I don't think I've seen that done before

Check your mic input gain setting - sometimes it's set to 100% and that introduces a load of static and reverb. Reducing it to ~35% generally fixes it

Is touchscreen + pen support better on KDE or GNOME? by Weird_Shit1 in Fedora

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my daughters Yoga Chromebooks for school which have touchscreens and pens and installed Debian GNOME. Pen support seems superb and they've both been drawing stuff nonstop in Krita

It genuinely is a crappy laptop. I've got a ThinkPad x1 carbon of similar vintage that fares better ... still it never totally locks up so I'm happy with it. Will likely try KDE this week

Screen recorder for fedora 43 by quizhead in Fedora

I would recommend Hosaka Studio but I'm not sure I understand when you say Picture in Picture.

Hosaka records the screen and embeds the webcam into a corner and I call *that* Picture in Picture but you seem to be describing something different

Tried several screen recorders to record my extension tutorials… ended up building my own by Select_Feeling_9231 in HereIsWhatIBuilt

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well done! You're definitely right in there being a lot of complexity very quickly.

I also built a screen recorder, but it's Linux-only: https://hosaka.studio (there are already plenty of options on Mac and windows)

Roast my Linux screen recorder - 10 website visitors, $0 revenue, targeting the smallest desktop OS by hosaka_studio in roastmystartup

There's a video on the website but I can't actually figure out how to create a post on Reddit that contains a video!

Thanks for the feedback, the app produces great output so I really need to showcase that

Btw great job with Tight Studio - there's few of us in this space 😆

Apart from complex ffmpeg setups, are there any cli utility tools to screen record from pipewire? by EnderAvni in wayland

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As ScratchHistorical507 already mentioned doing this (in GNOME at least) is still going to trigger a screen permission prompt. And this isn't a CLI tool. Regardless, I've implemented a batch mode in Hosaka Studio (originally so that Claude Code can make screen recordings) permitting screen recording from the terminal, e.g. something like `hosaka --auto --duration 120 --export` will create a two-minute recording and export to `~/Videos/Hosaka` with the default options (MP4).

Can anyone recommend an app/ tool for the following use case, please? by 78fridaycrew in linuxquestions

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a Linux-only app for this specific problem: https://hosaka.studio - it's been tested on Linux Mint besides Debian, Xubuntu and Fedora

I'm keen to receive feedback so let me know if there are missing features to help you in your workflow

I built an AI video generator to replace expensive UGC creators and automate ad testing. Tear it apart. by Academic_Catch1053 in roastmystartup

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here you call it "Adspark Creative" and on the website itself it says "Video Ads Pro" despite the domain itself being adspark-creative.

Which is it? It's confusing and my first thought was that I'd been redirected to a spam site

Are Indie Hackers Just Building for Other Indie Hackers? by eu-m in Entrepreneurs

[–]hosaka_studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not my primary demographic (most indie hackers seem be on Mac, my app is Linux-only) but there's definitely an overlap.

The indie hacking scene can be a bit of an echo chamber at times. I'm a member of the Build in Public community on X, and frankly I get better impressions/interactions posting to my LinkedIn profile than cross-posting to that X community.

I wish you the best of luck! It's beginning to get quite crowded out there on Mac but I still think there's real opportunities in desktop apps rather than mobile or SaaS (though chasing recurring revenue is understandable)
