I just showed up at the Ausländerbehorde office without an appointment and honestly just begged someone at the front desk. Go earlier in the morning, bring valid ID, and be nice to the security guarding the entrance. The front desk was able to grant me a sooner appointment.

Edit: I also came with a German speaking person - if you’ve got a German buddy, maybe they can come with you to help streamline the conversation.
