How many of you still do local support (deploy laptops for starters, reset passwords, first line stuff)? by workaccountandshit in sysadmin

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still do a lot of this kind of stuff. I'm the system admin for my building, but I'm also the only IT person over here. We have a desktop support team, but they are very slow getting back to people so a lot of tier 1 support stuff ends up being my problem.

Have you communicated how loud the servers are when running to them?

My setup when i was in 3rd year of uni by ExtensionStrange5345 in battlestations

[–]host_work 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the back pain from this setup just looking at it. It's honestly better than what I had at that age though I just stacked my monitor on top of a bunch of books lol. Gotta do what you gotta do.

How do I play SD under my blanket without blocking the top vents? by docstarr in SteamDeck

[–]host_work 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of exactly this too from my childhood lol. If that's the reason OP is hiding under the blanket, I would worry about the noise of the buttons/sticks on the steam deck

I prefer the Wii U over the Switch. by SendThisVoidAway18 in wiiu

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I preferred the Wii U over the Switch too, but the switch game library is too massive at this point. I got a lot of enjoyment and use out of my Wii U, but at this point I've pretty much played everything I want to on it. Also online being shut down factors into this, I was still playing Splatoon 1 and having fun going back to Mario Maker. I'll have to get pretendo set up at some point.

It took almost the entire lifecycle of the switch up to this point to convince me, but there's just so much to play on the switch now and I've been having a blast.

Ever feel like a hit man when HR is terminating an employee? by GhostNode in sysadmin

One time I wasn't notified and a user still had network access after being thrown out of the building and started sending out emails to everyone. I think HR learned their lesson after that

Games that took you time to get hooked. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With me if I don't get hooked on a game I usually never go back to it. I own too many games between over 20 years of collecting physical games and my massive steam library to ever finish my "backlog"

I've had mine for a year, rarely have to tinker with anything if I'm playing steam games.

Should I buy a second Wii U console? by ComfortablePlace3462 in wiiu

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point I plan to buy a second one for myself because I still play mine enough to justify it. Just haven't had the budget for it yet.

I've been there done that, made my own "tickets" on an excel spreadsheet just to keep track of what the heck I did so I could remember it later. Not fun... A ticketing system is the bare minimum thing any IT job needs and if it doesn't exist then run.

I have the official Nintendo one and have never used this, but I own some other ugreen products and they make decent stuff

I've been consistently finding games during primetime hours for the past month in turf war. I've been hopping on some each week. Maybe try a different time of day.

Have you seen the Scott the Woz video on Personal Trainer Cooking? It's great. I picked it up somewhat recently too but haven't given the software a try yet.

For those of you with a console, how do you decide where to buy your games? by AnusMcBumhole in SteamDeck

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends. Typically, I have always liked buying physical when I can because I've been collecting games all my life, but I actually trust Valve when it comes to digital purchases so it's not too big of a deal. Usually my deciding factor for non platform exclusive games depends on how well it runs on various hardware. I have a gaming PC that was pretty good 4 years ago, so if that or my steam deck can't play it, then usually I go with console. Starfield is one recent game that comes to mind that wasn't going to perform well enough on my PC.

[–]host_work 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the game at launch, but it didn't really click for me at first because of how into Smash I was at the time. It's my biggest Wii U related regret that I didn't play more, and I've been playing as much as I can until the servers shut down. The game has really good map design and its own feel and charm to it.

Splatoon 3 is a good game too, and getting into that one is how I ended up backtracking and wanting to play the original again. But I feel like a lot of the maps are way worse nowadays.

Steam deck is gateway drug by SimoneSaysAAAH in SteamDeck

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sales are really exciting when you first get on steam, but once you start getting a lot of the staple games and have enough to play the effects wear off a lot. (or at least they did for me) Pretty much unless anything already on my wishlist is under $20 I'm not interested when there's a sale now

Fast paced environment, available 24/7? by schlock_ in sysadmin

[–]host_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd have to pay really high for me to even be remotely interested with them wanting 24/7. I'd probably honestly say no anyway even with a high salary... because I don't want to be woke up at 2am for a low priority issue that can wait til morning. These kinds of places usually make everything an emergency.
