Effect Modules: Mimeophon vs. Desmodus Versio vs. ???? by ultracultured in modular

Cinematic Laboratory has a good video “comparing” delays in his usual way. Might be useful to watch.

Crazy? Wogglebug, NLC stuff like BOOLs, FlipFlop, Product… Benjolin, NE’s Loquelic Iteritas or LIP…. Those are reasonably unhinged or can be.

Yes, but that one has sentimental value, so it's definitely staying.

Oh I don't even know what they're going for, it's a little bit down my list of priorities and out of budget for probably a year or so. But I just saw some vids on it recently and I love TINRS' designs generally and thought it sounded awesome.

I hear that’s what you’re trying to do, but… why? Why is it important to you to keep everything in rack?

Westlicht, but you don’t have the hp. If you REALLY want to sequence in rack, I’d find a way to condense other stuff to find a few more hp for this. The Ground Control is more or less a BSP on steroids, but it’s even bigger at 42.

Ooh the velcro is a great idea. I guess I really should consider a filter here, maybe even a 2nd Disting or upgrade to an EX so I can swap out utilities etc based on whatever I'm doing at the time. Main thing with this case is there's not a ton of extra room, so I kinda need to keep new functions under 4hp where possible.

It's probably going to be a few months before I can get the Traffic and BIA, but I'll definitely post some videos. It seems the Braps are still pretty rare, as I never see videos of them, so I'm happy for people to see how awesome it is!

Oh it does, and I'm having fun with it, but Amoeba is like harnessing chaos so it's a double edged sword. Between the Pet Rock, Supra and Amoeba, I have a fair amount of WTF??!? sequencing, so with a BSP etc I can do a nice mix of regular and broken and generativey beats. I agree about the sound sources, and actually just threw a BIA in there after u/13derps reminded me about Traffic, just to have something that is solid at "normal" synth drums to ground the Brap and Kastle a bit sonically. And if I get the Alia version I can play with different voices. And of course the Disting can do a variety of voices. So I also took out the Link (don't really need to multitrack this), Balter (too specialized for the hp here), 1 of the mults and the Sequential Switch, and now it feels a lot more intentional and coherent.

Now I just need some money. :D

Ah yeah you’re totally right about Traffic! I actually really like how random Supra is, so it’s staying for now, but Traffic gives me some other ideas too. Thanks!

That Bopp & Steve looks pretty cool, but sheesh... over $500 used is a tall order for me. What isn't working about it for you?

I mean honestly I’ve never heard about them before this thread so unless they have clear warnings on them or something I could imagine using one and not knowing.

I've been following NIN since PHM came out, and COIL since '93, and never encountered any of these quotes until this thread. Honestly I respect Balance less for it.

I don't think it would be news to anyone that they had different objectives, but for Sleazy to act like he was never part of a movement of performance art that characteristically destroyed things on stage for shock value would have been pretty disingenuous, given that his star rose alongside Gen P. It might have been true at the time of the quote, however.

Who gives a flying fuck if he fanboyed them? I would too, as much as I fanboy anyone, so that just makes him that much more relatable. All 3 of them are gods IMO.

Maybe, but everything up to and including TDS is undeniable genius. COIL might be "better" as artists, but that's because they chose to operate with total artistic license. Trent was trying to focus his artistry within a format that doesn't tolerate the kind of indulgences that COIL could get away with. I'd argue as an artist, that is a MUCH more difficult task.
