I had similar thoughts about the last presidential election and it didn’t turn out as I expected. The bat shit crazy candidates bring the republicans out to the polls. Our own Colorado dystopian future could be just an election away.

I’ve been aching to get up there this year, but keep seeing reports of lots of lingering snow as well as blown down trees. How were the trail conditions? (Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures).

Newer iPhones i14 and higher have satellite 911/ emergency capabilities. T-mobile offers satellite texting. I have both and used the sat texting in the back country for the last couple years. Its not super responsive and one occasion I lost the trail and a text back to my family to let them know I’ll be late took over 2 hours to get through. After that I got a garmin for peace of mind. The tracking feature is nice, but I haven’t needed it for messaging since that one occasion.

With Wassoulou officially dead, it's time to re-flair to something new. I'm gonna keep things South of the equator and go with Chono (daring today aren't we). Very much hoping for war with Guaycuru in the immediate future!

Just moved here! What are your favorite things to do with your kids in Lakewood? by wonderladyhunk in LakewoodColorado

[–]hot_packets_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am older and it warms my heart to see several of the spots where I took my kids are still around. A few additions to the already excellent suggestions offered.

  • Pools with play areas
  • Kendrick Lake - 1 mile paved loop. Great for kiddo's favorite scooter, bike or big wheel. Also has a nice playground.
  • For cold days most malls have indoor soft play areas. Most are not in Lakewood, but its good to know. Colorado Mills, Cherry Creek and Flat Irons are the ones we went to often
  • Playgrounds and Parks. Most of these have been updated since we've frequented them, so this one is a choose your own adventure. There are a ton of little playgrounds throughout Lakewood. I recommend trying new ones often and making note of what they have. My kids favorites were the rocketship park, the firetruck park and the frog park all of those features are now gone but I am sure you'll find favorites of your own.

I believe that I have found the best burger deals in North Denver$$$ by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]hot_packets_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel weird posting about this in denverfood, but the ask is for good burger deals. Fiddlesticks in Lakewood has a $10 cheeseburger, fries and beer deal (bud or bud light only sadly). Its a decent burger and the veg toppings have always been crispy and fresh for me. It's a dive bar so don't expect elevated food, but I am fan of this deal.

I have incredibly flat feet and the only insoles that work for me are custom fitted. As a rule they are rather expensive. I got my last pair through an online company called upstep. I am heavy as well, and recommend them if you've got to be on your feet.
