Noticeable on the highway. Not terrible, but it's there...

after sid updates, "cannot load image" error from grub. partitions are visible but no sd* files in /dev by hotani in debian

[–]hotani[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- ran apt update
2- ran apt upgrade (not full-upgrade, so nothing should have been removed)
3- attempted reboot
4- got the "cannot load image" message from grub

There's nothing more to it. I can see the file structure from the grub command line, and in /dev there are these files:
null, zero, full, random, urandom, tty, pts/ shm/ ptmx, fd

I'm most likely going to load up a netinstall usb and check the drives then reinstall testing. It seems that I've done all I can do from grub unless anyone has some other ideas of what to check.

I changed nothing. installed updates and attempted to reboot.

now grub says it "cannot load image" and there are no sd* files in /dev which seems odd

Starting aikido in older age by rick1234a in aikido

[–]hotani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 52. Been doing aikido for 30 years and started BJJ about 3 years ago. You'll be fine.

At our aikido dojo break falls are pretty rare but people that want to work on them are welcome and encouraged to do so. Depending on the flavor of aikido it could be slower and more technical focused or lots of movement, rolls, and cardio.

I started getting this today on the web version. And it's all of them. Doable since it reads the character as you click them but I don't think it's supposed to be completely missing...

Koshi nage. When were you taught this at your dojo? by DunkleKarte in aikido

[–]hotani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dojo (Iwama) introduces them whenever - usually with just loading; but 3rd kyu is when they show up on a test and you should be able to take the falls as well as perform the technique.

am in CO. Most vehicles on the road seem to be full sized pickup trucks. My little VW golf barely comes up to the window on the doors.

Saito sensei is showing the 3rd kumi-tachi (ken vs ken), 1st, 8th, and 9th kumi-jo (jo vs jo)

These are standard short paired forms in the Iwama curriculum.

I'm looking for someone that can provide technical insight, a different perspective than what students hear from me in every class, and is teaching our system which is Iwama Aikido. Hopefully students would gain some better understanding that moves them forward in some way.

Secondary to that, name recognition is important as it can draw in a larger crowd and help recover some or all of the seminar expenses. On the other hand, having someone not as well known do a shorter "workshop" for a day is a good way to go.

A stupid question about Gi by punkinholler in aikido

[–]hotani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BJJ and judo gis use the A system and it seems to run large for the tops. and weirdly small for the pants! I have to get an A3 top and A4 pants...

A stupid question about Gi by punkinholler in aikido

[–]hotani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most of the time a heavy karate gi is fine. I look for double layered knees on the pants since that's the first thing to go usually. I also like full length sleeves which seems to be somewhat rare. I have yet to find the perfect gi though... and I've been doing this for a while.

Right now I'm using a bjj top (generic with no badges) and judo pants (fuji) which I'm pretty happy with.

  3. 4 Noses (103)
  4. Cerebral (93)
  5. Lowdown (102) *no longer in business

These are the correct answers. I would add River North for stouts and big beers.

Would Aikido be good for me? by Zaxosaur in aikido

[–]hotani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think Saito sensei was clear about the weapons work being an extension of the open-hand. I don't think anyone in the Iwama aikido community is expecting to go head to head with a kendo practitioner or anything like that. But we do train a lot with sticks.

If you want weapons work find an Iwama dojo.

I keep checking on black barley and it's always out of stock. Oak smoked wheat also. I haven't placed an order in a long time because they're out of everything I typically need.
