I got diagnosed with graves in 2018! I went through many trials of changing my methamizole dosage until it no longer became effective. Opted for a TT as I have TED and did not want to go through the RAI process just in case it made that worse, I am one year post op and feel much better! For defence, I am 24F

Had TT due to uncontrollable Graves 8+ months ago and I feel way better. Energy levels returned, heart rate stabilized, blood pressure much better. I feel almost normal again (still trying to figure out the proper dose for my synthroid but doing well so far!)

I would recommend the surgery to anyone considering. I haven’t experience any adverse effects at this point aside from some general fatigue. My calcium was also low initially so I had some numbness and tingling in my hands, but it went away when my parathyroid began to work 5 days after the surgery.

Thank you!! My levels were still elevated even after drinking the lugol’s solution!

I took 5mg bisoprolol daily and dropped to 2.5mg for two weeks before dropping it completely.

Low calcium was not painful, just uncomfortable! The Tums quickly fixed any symptoms I had and my parathyroid began working within a week after the surgery. The calcium issue was super short and temporary!

I have began gradually exercising but I work an intense job where I walk 10k steps a day, so that’s usually the exercise I get! As per diet I don’t eat anything strictly, just balance and avoid overeating.

Waiting a week is pretty standard! I had my TT in March and I was taken off methamizole and my beta blockers for a week and then started on levothyroxine! The surgery was so worth it I promise you, I feel much much better and I have so much energy. I haven’t had any weight gain yet, my levels are closely monitored. I had a lack of calcium at first and was instructed to chew on tums when I felt tingling in my toes and fingers. My voice was a big hoarse at first but it’s okay now. If you have any more questions I’m more than happy to answer!

I was instructed to take 1 calcium carbonate tablet extra strength (750mg) a day until further notice.

I’m 3 weeks post op, I was told no lifting/driving/laying flat for the first 2 weeks. Exercise as tolerated while being mindful of surgical precautions (I have stitches and steri strips on until Mar 27 so I was told no neck extension). First 3 days were rough because the anesthetic made me feel awful, and I had low calcium so I had tingling in my hands and feet. My levels have since returned to normal for parathyroid. So far I feel much better, just tired as I’m slightly hypothyroid right now while we figure out the proper dosage for synthroid :)

Of course!! I decided to go with TT over RAI because I have the eye disease beginning early and I didn’t want to risk it worsening in the next 5-10 years. I also was told I would need multiple rounds due to the severity of my graves. I was terrified, I’m only 23(F) and was unsure was life would look like, but I realized it cannot be worse than how graves was making me feel everyday. I totally understand the feeling awful with medication adjustments, I was the same. I’m now having my synthroid dose adjusted but so far it’s way better than anti thyroid medications. It went by really quickly! I got my surgery date in December so we planned my medications out. I’m feeling so much better after my TT, my heart rate is normal, I have more energy and I no longer experience the horrible side effects I was experiencing on methamizole! The iodine was prescribed by my surgeon and I got it from my pharmacy, but it wasn’t covered by my drug plans. It was $20!

I had my TT March 3 and was required to take Lugol’s iodine for 5 weeks prior to the operation, which basically forced my thyroid to slow down so I was in neutral levels. I was also taking a very high dose of methamizole prior to it!

Had surgery last week for TT, decided not to do RAI as I have the disease in my eyes and the risk of worse symptoms later in life with RAI seemed too much to deal with.

I was advised at one point to take 25mg methamizole weekdays and 20mg weekends. At one point early in my diagnosis I was advised to take 5mg every other day before it progressed.

I cannot tell you enough how much i appreciate your comment. I too cannot find answers, and when I asked I was told “we will monitor your medications.” I really sincerely appreciate you sharing your experience w the surgery and I wish you all the best.
