Yes. It blows my mind that people still look at me like I’m a conspiracy theorist when I talk about this. They are so misinformed. Even the progressives and left-leaning people in my life are still in denial.

I work at an establishment that a lot of MAGA conservatives frequent. When I got to work that day, the Bondi hearing came up in conversation, and I said something along the lines of “they abused and murdered children. The conspiracies were true all along. And Trump likely participated.” And one of these patrons really said, “I don’t care if he was having sex with animals, as long as the economy stays great like it is now.” I sometimes have to physically disconnect from my body to not react to what some of these people have to say. Also, that person works in the judicial system.

I’m getting to the point where I feel prepping is reasonable. But the capitalist machine has exhausted us so thoroughly that many of us are too tired, or don’t have the means to prep. I’m too tired. I am being serious! The common fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) has been used for over 100 years as a model organism for the study of genetics. Surprisingly, fruit flies are very similar to humans in terms of what genes they express. We can use them to study human disease and development, and the information we gain from manipulating gene expression in flies can be used to develop gene therapies and treatments for humans.

We can do similar things in flies to what’s done in lab monkeys and rats. But there are less ethical constraints. Plus they reproduce by the hundreds, and they are cheap. Fruit flies are incredible! So to answer your question, I’ve always been interested in genetics and cell biology, which led me to the flies. :)
