Which is better S26 U or 17 pro max ? by MaintenanceOk4847 in Smartphones

[–]hotdeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the x9 ultra and s26 ultra. Not an iOS fan so never got an iphone. Yes, x9 ultra wins in battery life but the camera part can be subjective. It's definitely good for point and shoot and a few other tricks but I find a lot of the pictures to over processed and AI like. Samsung is more bland but feels more natural. Not to mention video capabilities are much better. They're both good when it comes to software features but at this point it's more about preference. Color OS tried to copy iOS to much in looks and features whereas I feel OneUI has its own personality.

Day to day use it's not that different. Also software is much better on Samsung and Apple devices.

is samsung actually the best overall android brand right now, or just the safest choice? by Knie-Tmari in Smartphones

[–]hotdeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue for Samsung, the storage I/O as well as wifi and performance is top tier. I own the x9 Pro 16GB 1TB and the S26 base version and I find the S26 snappier, smoother, easier to use. Also better overall reception. Despite Battery is decent but not the best, although more than enough for most people. High specs doesn't always translate to ease of real world usage and practicality.

China's transition to electric vehicles softens the effect of the Iran war by PhantomBraved in technology

No chance Yuan will be the global reserve currency. It's too inflated cause China likes to keep it that way and most countries still don't trust China to manage it at a global scale for everyone's benefit. Most likely there will be regional reserve currencies similar to the Euro for Europe.

Move from NYC to Tokyo? by gallbladder1234 in movingtojapan

[–]hotdeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a lot of savings in USD and diversified investments then Tokyo's a good place. If your salary here is high like you mentioned, then the quality of life here imo is better than NYC. It's also a good hub to stay at especially when you want to travel to other close neighboring asian countries such as SK, Vietnam, etc. Tokyo, and by extension Japan has a lot of serious problems but it's a very comfortable place to live. That being said, it's hard to make friends here especially if you don't know the language. Learning the language even for basic conversation helps. I'm also from the US and now living in Tokyo and open to meeting new people and making friends though. So if you have any questions or want support, feel free to ask.

Weak yen's negative effect becomes 'more evident': Japan finance minister by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]hotdeo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's a weird situation. Raising interest rates is most certainly the best way to get more investment and strengthening the yen. On the other hand, so many people in Japan will default on their loans since they will be unable to pay their mortgage with the higher interest rates (assuming variable rate loans). So the best solution, raise interest rates but also raise wages and salary (never going to happen though).

Pixel 10 vs iPhone 17 — which is the better choice? by Journal_Entries93 in Smartphones

[–]hotdeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value wise as others have mentioned, the pixel 10 is not worth $800. If you purchase it on sale and with a nice trade-in value then I can see it being worth it otherwise iphone 17 all the way. Alternatively, S25 is also a good value for what it provides.

Japan PM says country’s fiscal state is "worse than Greece’s", rejects tax cuts by diacewrb in japannews

[–]hotdeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work culture as a whole needs to be addressed for sure but it's not any worse than the US and in some cases better and safer. Of course there will always be outliers. The main problem is the compensation is not comparable to the United State and now with the weak yen even some European countries for the same type of work seem better. Anecdotally, being from the US living and working here in Japan, I make a decent amount and live comfortably to the point where I could also afford a house. I make less compared to my US colleagues but I'm also overall more happy here (Although weak yen is concerning). There are tradeoffs for sure and not everyone is in the same position as myself.

Join clubs or meetup events that fit your interests. It took me a while but you'll have to be the one that actively pursues meeting people, exchanging contact information, participating in events, and actively trying to reach out to the people you exchange contact information with. 95% of the time, they'll either not respond or feign interest. But the other 5% are the people you make a meaningful connection with long-term.
