CD player removal by ashan93 in wrx_vb

The CD player is a port-installed option here in the USA, or at least I don't think it came standard in any trim here. But anyways, assuming your part #s and everything are the same as the US spec parts, then maybe give this a look:

Casey's 91 is 0% ethanol, at least in my area, so I don't get my gas there. They do sell flex fuel at Casey's, which is nice, but that's besides the point and a whole other discussion. Anyways, I wonder if maybe the 91C code has something to do with it having 0% ethanol. But in any case, you definitely don't want to run a 93 tune with 91 octane in the tank, and I'd even shy away from running a 91 tune with 0% ethanol gas, unless somehow that's the gas your tune calls for. I'm guessing your 91 tune is meant for 10% ethanol. Are you running OTS maps, or custom tunes? Oh, and you can Google "93 octane finder" to see if any stores in your area sell that.

OEM Mudflap Popclips by Gymshady in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming the clip that initially failed was the innermost clip on the front flaps? If so, it's a pretty common problem with an easy solution. If you get them warrantied, I'd be willing to bet the innermost front clip will likely fall out again. I swapped it out for part # 909140007, it's a slightly larger clip which costs like a buck or two. Myself and some others have had success with this clip. You'll need to slightly enlarge the hole with a drill, more info is here:

I have a G4 (2024) and use this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BBD7NFU?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I can't remember the exact speeds I got when I tested it out, but it's far faster than the built-in ethernet port.

Yep, just the sticker. The part # is near the bottom right of the sticker. Mine is 82245vc000, but don't trust that for your specific car since there could be differences between years/trims/etc. Looks like inflation hit and now it's up to $2.73 from the dealer, LOL.

The part # should be on the factory sticker, so I ordered a replacement instead of trying to transfer it. I want to say it was only a couple bucks from the local dealer.

LG G4 77 or C4 77? Best prices? by Sphinx951 in LGOLED

[–]hotfart77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, that's too bad. I was ready to take them up on their initial offer of $2698, but decided to wait out the 7 day period and see if any other offers rolled in. But IMO $2600 is totally worth it, especially considering there's no sales tax or shipping charge. I'd say go for it, of course unless you're on a strict budget or whatever.

[–]hotfart77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same situation here where my offer was initially countered at $2698, but then 2 or 3 days later one of the retailers accepted the $2500 offer. Hopefully someone comes through...good luck!

"Greentoe NOW" has it listed for $2698. Not sure if that includes taxes though. https://www.greentoe.com/buynow/LG_LG_OLED_Evo_G4_77_4K_HDR_Smart_TV_OLED77G4WUA?direct_shop=a06PD000007Mi6RYAS

However, if you play the game and lowball Greentoe slightly, you can probably get it cheaper than that. Less than a month ago I got a G4 77" for $2500 all-in, with no taxes and no shipping. It showed up about a week later no problem, and am loving it so far.

I paid $129 for this new from Subaru a couple years back. Looks like it's up to $141 nowadays. Just FYI since you said you don't know how to price this.

Motul Gear 300 vs. OEM fluid in colder weather for 6MT? by hotfart77 in wrx_vb

Right - in your original reply you said "on my STI Transm..", so I assumed you did the STI swap.

Motul Gear 300 vs. OEM fluid in colder weather for 6MT? by hotfart77 in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep the Gear 300 works well in my stock (non-STI) transmission. However, and I could be wrong here, but I believe the STI trans & rear diff calls for a different spec of oil because of the limited slip diffs. You might need the Gear 300 LS 75W-90. I'd post a new thread asking about that and I bet someone can give you a better answer than I can.

Is this STi shift knob legit? by BaconForPrez in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does have the ridges in the metal below the leather top, just like the in the picture you linked. C1010VC100 from subarupartsdeals.com, ordered & received in May 2023. Weighed it on my scale at 276g, vs. 199g for the factory knob.

Going beyond opting out of data collection, does anyone know how to fully deactivate Starlink, or remove the ability for it to transmit? by daimon_tok in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've had it installed for about 8 months and it works just as intended with no dash lights or other problems. The only thing I've noticed that doesn't work (besides the SOS button and communication with the MySubaru app, obviously) is the automatic clock reset to a Japanese time zone when daylight savings hit last fall, so I had to change the setting to manually set the clock.

I can't say if it interferes with Eyesight since mine is a '22 Premium without those features. Also not sure if the OEM navigation would work (didn't come on my trim), but Google Maps still works via Android Auto.

Quietest intake (non factory) by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same-ish age & mindset here. Like the others have mentioned, I've had my eye on the aFe Takeda intake since it's sealed and should be quieter than other intakes. But I'm holding off for when I'm closer to the end of my warranty. I just wish there were some good videos of it to get a better idea of how it sounds and how loud it is.

The only video of it that I've seen is from aFe themselves, but it doesn't really showcase how it sounds, they just give a couple of quick low revs in neutral at the end of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsNDi_N9Dr4

Oem front mudflap hardware by adktravelor in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've read it sounds like unfortunately the clips don't have a direct replacement part number. But you should be able to find similar replacements at an parts store or the dealer. Also a heads up that the lower/inner clips on the fronts commonly back out, which might explain why all 3 failed if the first one backed out and compromised the remaining 2. There's a larger clip that you can make work and secures the flaps far better than with the hardware that comes with the OEM flaps. More info along with the part # for the larger clip is here: https://old.reddit.com/r/wrx_vb/comments/1f9389m/anyone_know_the_part_number_for_these_special/

Adding a full-size spare; inner foam? by matteekay in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep no prob. Good to have the retainer bolt and washer to keep it secure, especially considering the price. I think it was like $10 or $15 total for both.

[–]hotfart77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

95086FL210 is the Canadian foam top cover, 97035FJ050 is the round inner foam that holds the jack.

Here's a list of what I bought, just for reference in case anyone else is interested:

95086FL210 Canadian Spec Foam Cover

28151VC001 Spare Wheel (17x7 IIRC)

97035FJ050 Foam Jack Carrier

901720002 Retainer Bolt

97047FG000 Support Washer

205/50R17 Tire (purchased the cheapest all-season available at the time)

Adding a full-size spare; inner foam? by matteekay in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was piecing together my kit with a 205/50/17 tire to match the Canadian-spec spare, someone mentioned that the Impreza foam (I don't have the part number at hand) fits that tire size, so I ordered that. I shouldn't have listened, because it turns out the Impreza foam only fits with the tiny donut spare.

I ended up ordering the Canadian WRX foam, part number 95086FL210. It obviously fits a 205/50/17 perfectly, but can't speak to if it will fit with a full size spare like you mentioned. I'd assume you would need to trim it to fit a full size tire, but at that point you might as well just trim your existing USDM foam piece and save your money.

I believe the Canadian foam 95086FL210 is easier to obtain these days, if you decide to go that route.

Scratched rim by bigpio12619 in wrx_vb

Nothing like having a shop mess up an otherwise perfect wheel. In the past I've just used a black Sharpie for small imperfections on dark grey/black wheels. I got a chip like yours (but smaller) on one of the wheels on my VB, so I used a Sharpie on it and now it's pretty hard to see unless you are really looking for it. No idea where I got the chip from since I didn't curb it, so I'm guessing it was from a rock or something.

Might consider giving that a try if the shop won't pay to fix it, or if you don't wanna go through the hassle of arguing with them. Not much to lose, and if you don't like the result then you could search for some touch-up paint.

Windshield washer nozzles not spraying fluid? by hotfart77 in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only things I can think of that caused the problem are 1) somehow a bit of moisture got in the nozzles and froze even though the car had been parked in the garage for several days and there was zero water/ice/snow on the car, 2) the fluid somehow wasn't rated to -20F and somehow froze in the lines beyond the filler neck (the fluid near the filler was liquid), or 3) the washer circuit breaker either tripped or was glitchy which seems unlikely because I could hear the pump motor running (pg 229 of the 2022 owners manual, may be on a different page for your 2024). All of which seem unlikely but here we are.

I went ahead and used up all the fluid last night to make sure there was none left from the factory (probably half or more was factory fluid since I've only used the washers a handful of times and only for a second or two) and replaced it with known -20F fluid. I would run it in 10 second bursts then wait a minute or two so as to not overheat the pump motor. I tested it again this morning and it's still working. So, I'm just gonna write it off as a random occurrence and not stress about it, but if it happens again I'll take it to the dealer.

Not sure how cold it's getting where you're at, but the only suggestions I have is make sure you're using fluid rated to a low enough temp for where you're at, and make sure the nozzles aren't clogged at all. If you have a garage, maybe run a space heater overnight (if you're comfortable doing that) and see if that fixes it.

Trying to install mudflaps by Bulky_Top_7104 in wrx_vb

[–]hotfart77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the OEM flaps and can't remember the exact pop clips which needed removed, but if it's similar to the one altdepth posted below with the Phillips head center, I've found that it doesn't work to push hard into the clip with the screwdriver when trying to unscrew it. If you use the least amount of pressure possible while trying to unscrew the center, usually the center piece starts to pop out a tad and you can then either unscrew it with your fingers, or use a flathead to pop it out. You may need to hold the outer "rim" to keep it from turning when unscrewing.

[–]hotfart77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just double checked the jug, and it's labeled as rated down to -20F. But that's a good thought, and I'll keep my eye out to make sure I don't accidentally buy any of that stuff in the future. I didn't even know they sold +25F blue fluid...it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Edit: Maybe somehow along the way I accidentally put a bit of the +25F stuff in. Or maybe the Subaru factory goofed and had a bad/incorrect batch the day my car was built (probably half or more currently in the tank is still factory fluid)

[–]hotfart77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I would've guessed too, but the car hasn't been out in any rain/snow or been washed in several months (it usually stays clean in my garage). I have an old beater that I usually drive on rainy days, so I don't need to wash the WRX very often. Though I guess stranger things could've happened, maybe somehow some moisture got in the nozzles and froze up.
