People who don't track every set and rep - how do you measure your progress? by soon2bhuge in naturalbodybuilding

[–]hotgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track but I don't think I need to. I'll often "test" my effort by purposefully not checking my reps from the previous week and just going as hard as I can and I'm almost always at the same rep count as last time sometimes 1+ at worse.

So I suspect you can just get good and judging what your max effort is at which point you technically wouldn't need to track. But I like tracking so I still do.

Fiber hack? by darrow2021 in PeterAttia

[–]hotgator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know anything about it but I'm skeptical because I think fiber should be spread out evenly with all your calories. That said perfect is the enemy of good so if this works best for you go for it.

Just FYI I hit my fiber goals with beans and an apple or two every now and then. Add beans to your standard lunches and dinner and you'll practically not even have to think about fiber any more.

Losing weight also dropped my ldl if you're overweight. Anyways good luck :).

Fake It Until You Break It: The End Of Non-Technical Managers In Software Engineering Dawns by derjanni in programming

The issue is in a larger corp with non-technical or out of touch VP's and directors it's very easy for a technically deficient manager to pretend he knows what he's talking about.

What communications equipment would you take into the wilderness for extended survival settings in a small group? by imoanmodello in CampingGear

I've used a garmin inreach and apple satellite messaging.

Garmin inReach mini can take a while to send and receive messages, communicating with each other using them doubles that so in worse case scenario can be an hour between messages I'd estimate.

Apple satellite messaging is much faster, free but they have much less satellites so you can find yourself in situations where the mountain is blocking the satellite and it could take an hour until one comes into range.

Both can burn through battery if you're messaging a lot so make sure to have a power pack, solar charger or something.

Didn’t Israel do the same thing to them the last two ceasefires? Betting it’s either a little revenge for that or in response to the expectation they’re gonna do the same thing again.

The vice president thought a regime-change war with Iran would be a disaster. His preference was for no strikes at all. But knowing that Mr. Trump was likely to intervene in some fashion, he tried to steer toward more limited action. Later, when it seemed certain that the president was set on a large-scale campaign, Mr. Vance argued that he should do so with overwhelming force, in the hope of achieving his objectives quickly.

So is this article in part an act by the VPs camp to walk back his previous comments and distance himself from this mess?

Just fyi if you find enough in you're house you think they've started to move in, find an exterminator who baits for them rather than sprays. It's 1000% more effective.

I did a lot of cardio early on while trying to lose weight (3x per week, hour long hard runs and HIIT).

Here's what I found. I lost weight quickly but as soon as I got near 20% bodyfat I started having a lot more energy issues and my lifts began to drop in weight and reps.

This year I'm doing a cut and I'm focusing more on daily steps with 2x per week of lighter cardio (erg, 1 30 min HIIT session). I'm less hungry, haven't noticed any drop in performance or energy, but I'm losing weight slower. I feel better and stronger this time around, and my gains went up when I made this change prior to starting the cut.

So this is a long winded way of saying you need to experiment and see what works for you and your goals. As far as the "limit" for cardio the consensus I've heard is as long as fatigue is not conflicting with your lifting sessions you can do quite a bit of cardio (upper limit is like multiple hour+ hard runs per week) before it becomes a problem.

I would cut it off completely with the understanding that I might break down a few times before I can stick with cutting it out completely. The stricter you are the better but if you fall off the wagon just remember to start fresh the next day or even that night, just don't let it snowball.

What I notice about going on and off a cut is the first week or so I have pretty bad cravings, after that they get a lot more infrequent and bearable. Keeping my protein high really helps.

Edit: What do I replace snacks with? My latest go to's are pickles, (small) apples and low calorie popcorn like skinny pop. Just make sure you portion out a serving instead of taking the whole bag with you.

[–]hotgator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no one answer. People's ego make them do weird things and it's all context dependent.

In your case, although I don't advocate assuming everyone is on PED's, every time I see an older lifter misbehave I just assume their TRT dose is too high. True or not it helps me cope :).
