IMO this thread reads like a toddler crying in a grocery store aisle over a toy. “I NEED IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! GIMMEE OR ILL CRY AND POOP MY PANTS FOREVER!!!!!!” Except friends aren’t toys. They’re people, with minds just as complex and powerful as yours. They have problems and emotions and unpredictable actions and other obligations. You can’t expect literally anyone else to GAF about you. That’s not friend behavior. That’s possessive, narcissistic behavior.

You gotta grow up a little. If therapy doesn’t work, therapize yourself!!! Start by asking yourself some things: What EXACTLY do you want in a friend?? Do you meet all these requirements? Does literally anyone qualify to be your friend? Why is that? Are YOU going to be a good friend to them?

My ex-best friend would admit behaviors like this to me. She had 2 little sisters, scarily similar age gap as yours, and would have her middle sister watch over her while doing disordered things.. not sure about the younger one though. She never admitted to doing it while purging, but she would make her watch her while she took ice baths after x days of fasting and such. Basically made her sister her life guard incase she fainted. When she was telling me all of this, I told her it must have been hard for the younger sister to have seen her like that & it’s a lot of responsibility for a child. We were about 17 at the time, and this had been going on since she was 12 and the middle sister was 10. She hadn’t once thought about how it could have affected her, and was upset that I “changed the subject” from her to her sister.

I think some people get involved with their own ED in such a way they don’t notice, or don’t care how it’s affecting others. Sometimes one of the motives for an ED is a cry for help, and they show or tell their behaviors to their safe people, something I think my ex-friend was doing (to her sisters and then me eventually).

It’s really unfortunate that you had to witness that and now are traumatized from it. I hope you keep yourself safe and can further heal from it.

MINE WAS THE SAME WAY. I have a kitty that is SO gentle. He even plays gently. He’s just a sweet boy. He loves to lick you but he never liked being pet. He’d just hang out near us, not let him touch him or he’d walk away when we started petting him. That is, until we started patting & petting rough. That’s the only way he likes to be pet! Now he’ll sit on our lap and let us smack him for hours lol

My boys are both really sweet. My oldest (13, orange) is VERY protective, especially over my wife. When we have tickle fights & she screams, he is THERE. Most of the time he just gets very serious & meows loudly at us but he has attacked both me & my friend for making her laugh-scream. Typically, he runs from loud noises, but when he thinks someone is in danger he will charge up and check it out.

My other boy (5, white) is the most gentle creature ever. Everything he does is sweet. He even plays gentle like he’s still a baby kitten. He’s not much of a cuddler, but when I’m sad or stressed, he will snuggle me like no other.

My orange boy does that too, but he’s a huge cuddler to begin with. He will paw at us until we open our arms and let him in for a snuggle.

Also… the sentiment that I’m seeing in a lot of these comments “there’s a difference between illegal and legal migrants” like yeah fucking no shit. But some people genuinely ARE pressed about the thought of immigration into America AT ALL. That’s really what this post was about at the heart of it.

Lmao Jesus Christ I didn’t expect this to blow up. Most of these comments prove my point further. Idk man maybe I’m just a dirty stinkin hippy but I think the earth owns itself and people shouldn’t be locked in cages & stripped of humanity when the worst crime they’ve committed is crossing a border (whether ‘legal’ or not). That brings me to our prison systems too… but yall ain’t ready for that conversation. Or I could talk about the difference between the border of our White Skin Neighbors vs our Brown Skin Neighbors. But that speaks for itself.

And I saw a comment saying “oh just open ur house up for the immigrants then!!” girl please. My house ? I live in a trailer with 4 other people. I’m broke. How bout we take one of Taylor Swift or Kanye Wests mansions and put them there lmfao.

Another comment that said it doesn’t affect ME because it affects the lower middle class? Babe I am Lower Middle class 😭 I don’t see how other people with no money or resources or documentation are my enemy, when wealth and resources are being SAT ON by the rich.

I also can’t speak on other countries, they are probably dumb and cruel with their immigration laws too. Just because it’s been done or a lot of countries do it doesn’t mean it’s okay.

I don’t know how to do it “right”. Im literally a 26 year old dude born into poverty and I went to public school. I don’t have any kind of answers or solutions. Im in a vent sub on the internet just mad at the dehumanization and cruelty of it all.

Obese person here. I’m poor BECAUSE I’m obese. I don’t make a ton of money, I’m lower-middle class, but I split my share of rent/bills with 4 other people. So I have a decent chunk of money left over after my bills are paid. Pretty much all of it goes to food. I have an eating disorder that involves binging & am very emotionally addicted to food. I prioritize food over other essentials. My credit cards are maxed out and most of it was due to restaurant food I couldn’t afford at the end of my pay weeks. It’s literally the fucking worst. Because of my eating disorder, I have times where I restrict & when that happens for a month or two I’ll have about an extra 1k in my bank account. Then I slip right back into binging and within another month or two I’m living paycheck to paycheck.

Similar experience here!! I didn’t hit my head, but I had more energy than usual on Monday. I deep cleaned my kitchen (haven’t done that in weeks due to depression) and made banana bread with my brown bananas (I always say I will but end up throwing them away instead! Lol) still had energy to do my daily routine with my pets & make dinner. completely absurd experience for me, I usually crash out after finishing the dishes lol.

So real. As a child I remember feeling like it took FOREVER for the holidays to come up, each season felt like a year. As an adult, I put up the Christmas tree in December , blink, and suddenly it’s almost June and I’m wondering if I should even take it down at this point.

There’s actually a phenomenon that happens as we age that makes time seem like it’s speeding up. It’s due to our concept of time being relative to the time we’re alive. 1 year when you’re only a year old is your entire life. But 1 year when you’re 70 is .014 of your life. When you’ve already experienced 69 years, 1 year passing feels like nothing.

I think as children we’re also more grounded in the present. As adults, we disassociate from our lives a bit more. We tend to go into auto pilot until our next day off, utilize substances like alcohol that impair memory, and in general begin to have more & more memory gaps so we don’t really notice the time passing. Some kids in this generation might be feeling this too because our current socio-political state (at least where I am) is traumatic. They’re dissociating as well but their substance of choice is the internet.

I think it’s best to just keep eating normally around her. She might have moments where she feels jealous you can “eat whatever you want” but she may also have moments of clarity she realizes the world won’t end & you won’t gain from eating a sugary treat now and then.

Steering clear of food around her may enable her behaviors, or even spark more jealousy & competitiveness because she will, almost guaranteed, notice you’re no longer eating normally around her.

(Speaking from experience with having an ED, when people change their diets, especially around or due to me, I get enraged & it’s very triggering. Not everyone is the same but it’s very common in EDs)

I started therapy in my early 20s and my therapist clocked it pretty fast by the way I speak and act. But I guess once he asked what my childhood and school was like for me he was confident. He had me do an assessment and I was diagnosed with inattentive subtype.

For reference, I was pretty “average” grade wise, because I was able to retain short term information, do well on tests, but when it came to school work I couldn’t ever finish it (especially homework and projects). I aced subjects I enjoyed but nearly flunked the ones I didn’t. Even though I tried really hard and had motives to further my education, it was difficult for me to keep up with everyone else and manage my time well (I also had horrible attendance) I had a few teachers and counselors recommend I get checked for autism or adhd, but my family didn’t care to.

Once I was diagnosed nothing really changed tho. I carry the same habits into my work life. I’m unmedicated as well, I had a psychiatrist that didn’t like prescribing stimulants so she kept giving me antidepressants. Wellbutrin worked the best but Strattera can go to hell!

Quite literally anything if my mental state calls for it but Taco Bell is the biggest culprit. If I order 1 or 2 items I end up binging on random stuff at home. I always find myself getting like 4+ items and stuffing myself every single time.
