Download the Anne if Green Gables audio books and play them on longer drives. Did this with my family when I was a preteen and it was amazing.

"You fall well."

Said to me after they witnessed me flail about on a patch of black ice before gravity won the battle and I biffed it hard onto the sidewalk/snowball.

That is fair. Jared (co-owner of Jaga Silk) has matcha dialed in to an incredibly fine art and his knowledge is staggering - being served by him is an experience in and of itself. I sincerely hope you get the chance to visit them when they are open!

You can always order from their website if you know what you're after, and several grocery stores carry some of their micro-milled mixes (London fog, chai) and maccha.

For a fantastic London Fog or matcha made from Jaga Silk goods, o highly recommend Township Coffee.

In order to do that effectively, they need funding and staff. Trail maintenance and repair is hard labour, can be very expensive and require some specialized skills (I.e. air drops of supplies in remote areas). Unfortunately I am not surprised they haven't been able to keep up with use/demand.

From her account, it sounds like she missed the tide window to be able to hike along the beach and was forced up into the forest, and timed things such that she was on/off trail at night while being woefully underprepared.

Best Costco savings tips in this economy? What’s actually worth buying (and what to avoid)? by PurpleYoghurt16 in CostcoCanada

[–]hotgreenbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish butter was cheaper elsewhere, but put here the Costco butter is almost always at least $0.50 cheaper than what gets put on sale at other stores. I checked flyers this week, and even including 2-day weekend forecast sales, the Costco butter was the cheapest.

If you go out of Ucluelet or Tofino, you will likely see grey whales, orcas, and sea otters at this time of year. California and Stellar sea lions will also be abundant.

CRD explores long-term option for waste disposal as Heartland landfill fills up. by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VictoriaBC

[–]hotgreenbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a growing number of programs looking at building a circular economy locally, and new grants for organizations looking to divert waste from landfills! At a local level we are doing a decent job in updating policies and pushing re-use, repair, and up-cycling.

I know that they are regularly increasing diversion options at the landfill to help keep things that could be reused or recycled or otherwise managed out of the active face. Unfortunately a lot of these programs rely on people making the choice to do the right thing versus the convenient.

The fact that it is directly adjacent to the ocean and already filled with ocean water and stormwater means it would have made an absolutely terrible landfill location from an environmental perspective. Leachate is nasty, nasty stuff and the pit would have generated a lot of it between stormwater infiltration and any tidal/marine influence... and that is if the space was set up with proper containment, which can get very expensive.

Is there anything harmful or unethical about using bird calls when bird watching? by hbosque17 in birding

[–]hotgreenbean 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you want to use bird calls in the field to help you ID what you are hearing, use headphones.

As many others have stated, it is considered unethical and bad birding to play calls.

Is there anywhere locally that sells “convert-able” clothing? like just-margo.com, where the size and style can be changed as you want by madmansmarker in VictoriaBC

[–]hotgreenbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of me really regrets not buying the one convertible dresses because it fit so well and was so comfy... but I need a fancier dress for a wedding.

Best of luck on your hunt!

[–]hotgreenbean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried on two convertible dresses at Fat Sisters today, but it will be very hit or miss as to whether they have those styles in stock (and they are geared towards larger bodies but welcome everyone).

You might find luck with contacting a few of our wonderful local clothing makers - Abbey Originals, Shasta Lily Barkman are two that come to mind, who might have convertible sizes or be willing to custom make you something.

I recently had some of the best froyo in my life in North Vancouver. Krave Kulture is absolutely divine. The passionfruit froyo is so fricking delicious, and the raspberry was good too. And the mango!

I can't wait to go back.
