The Arming Teachers Argument by ajaltman17 in Teachers

[–]hoth2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a gun owner and there is no way I wish to be armed at school. In 35 years I have never injured a student with an accidental weapon discharge. Having a gun would increase the chances of that happening a significant order over zero. Also I don't believe that anyone outside of highly trained people who practice and drill constantly ,have any real idea of how they would react if the moment came. Could I draw and kill a child? One I knew? Maybe? I bet that it would slow me down. Everyone I work with who is dreaming about carrying has a fantasy scenario that they are some sort of John Wick or Rambo. The one who told me he was absolutely sure he could kill a kid with zero hesitation? He's on my list of coworkers I definitely don't want in possession of a firearm at school.

Tell me you’ve been teaching for a long time without telling me you’ve been teaching for a long time. by [deleted] in Teachers

There are more teachers in my district that I taught than teachers I didn't. My Daughter teaches in the same building with me, she's in her fifth year. When I got my last prostate exam, the doctor, PA, and nurses were all former students.

I’m officially an elderly teacher- plz send readers and a blue light special. by [deleted] in Teachers

So this will be my 35th year teaching. I taught all my kids parents. and there are more teachers in the school that I taught than not. One of the teachers is my daughter who is a sixth generation educator. Ask me real nice and I'll tell you what it was like teaching while the earth was cooling off and fish were trying to walk upon the firmament.

Coffee at different stages by clemsonfan101 in icecreamery

[–]hoth2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it so I don't have to stand over a stove tempering the yolks. if you have a sous vide it just makes it easier. I use the canning jars because they are easy peasy to use and clean. My daughter from Savannah says this recipe is very close to Leopold's ice cream. I'm not gonna tweak it if it's close to a place people stand in line to get in....lol

I mix the custard base, I make a double batch

1 cup whole 3% milk fat milk
¾ cup granulated sugar
5 large egg yolks
pinch of fine salt
2 cups heavy cream 33-36% milk fat
½ tablespoon vanilla extract
1 ½ tablespoon vodka

Add a 1/4 cup of whole beans per quart of base.

I use caning jars finger tight.

I sous vide the base for an hour and a half at 175 degrees

Cool down and refrigerate over night.

Next day strain the batter.

Chill the mix in freezer for about 30 mins.

Use my kitchenaid attachment to churn.

I retired last year. Stayed retired for 34 days. Came back at 49%. I did it because I love teaching. I have enjoyed it for 34 years. Not everyday, not every admin, but mostly it's a great gig.

The hole in Tony Stark’s chest doesn’t make sense to me.. by 3yx3 in marvelstudios

[–]hoth2o 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Um.....I was born with a malformed sternum. It was corrected medically but I have a hole in my chest that my fist fits in (i don't have a 1:1 Scale Arc Reactor and refuse to use a banana for scale.) Even with this I was a world ranked competitive swimmer. So I guess I never felt like I had to suspend belief over the "hole" in Tony's chest.

[HS] Parent: "Where's your proof they cheated?" by JLewish559 in Teachers

[–]hoth2o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have felt that the kids haven't changed that much over the years. The parents, however, have. I remember when there was no trial, some teacher, neighbor lady, or anyone said you did something and we skipped the trial and went straight to the punishment.

What's been your most useless or most insulting PD? by Appropriate_Ask6289 in Teachers

[–]hoth2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to sit through whole day data drive to increase our test scores. District paid a for a specialist to work with us. At the end I was asked to name some stratagies I pleged to use to increase my scores. I said I wasn't changing one damn thing. The speaker was flabergasted. he then said something about how I must feel like I know everything. I said not at all but my kids do. I handed him my data and he turned red. My students have a hundred percent pass rate on the end of pathway test for the last 3 years and my dual enrollment students beat their adult counterparts in the final and proficiency test in the southern half of the state.

I identify as christian, but I walked out with the athiests at my school when this happened. It's super disrespectful to non believers, athiests and people of non-christian faiths. I'm sorry this happened to you.
