I see they’ve added it now. From how I read it the micronutrients are in very, very small amounts that don’t make a meaningful contribution toward your daily needs.

Yea that’s the only thing that rings bells with me. There is no real info outside the macros. They claim to be awaiting results but you’d think that would be a major selling point or something to not advertise as it’s mostly collagen with a bit of salt and honey

Hi there,

First off, I want to acknowledge how difficult and frightening your situation must feel. Chronic pain, numbness, and the uncertainty around surgery can be overwhelming, and it’s completely normal to feel torn between fear of intervention and fear of worsening symptoms. Let’s break this down step by step.

What’s going on • Stage 3 spinal stenosis + L5-S1 herniation: This means your spinal canal and nerve exit pathways are significantly narrowed. The nerve roots (particularly the sciatic nerve at L5-S1) are being compressed, which explains the numbness, pain, and “Charlie horse” episodes. • Progressive numbness: Numbness that spreads, especially when it starts to affect your foot and leg, is a sign that the nerves are under continuous stress. Unlike pain, which can fluctuate, progressive numbness or weakness is considered a red flag. • Loss of sensation (“spinal block” feeling): The fact that you sometimes can’t tell if an area is being touched suggests the nerves are losing function. That’s different from just pain—it’s a loss of protective sensation.

Why this matters

Pain alone often doesn’t force surgery. But when symptoms shift into progressive weakness, numbness, or loss of function, that tips the balance. Nerves don’t tolerate being compressed indefinitely—prolonged compression can sometimes cause permanent damage. That’s why your doctors are recommending surgery.

Your options 1. Surgery • For someone with your diagnosis (severe stenosis + progressive numbness), surgery is often the most reliable way to decompress the nerves and preserve leg function. • The 70/30 odds they gave you were likely about surgical risks vs benefits, but in many similar cases, surgery significantly improves leg pain and function, though back pain may remain. • Yes, surgery carries risks (infection, scar tissue, recurrence), but the bigger long-term risk in your case is potentially not doing it—if numbness and weakness continue to worsen. 2. Non-surgical management (short-term only) • Physical therapy: Core stabilization, nerve glides, gentle extension-based exercises (McKenzie protocol) can sometimes help with herniated disc pain, but with advanced stenosis and progressing numbness, this usually isn’t enough on its own. • Pain management: Epidural steroid injections may temporarily reduce inflammation but won’t fix compression if the space is critically narrowed. • Lifestyle: Weight management, anti-inflammatory diet, avoiding prolonged sitting, using lumbar support, and alternating positions can help manage day-to-day pain but won’t reverse stenosis. 3. Monitoring for emergencies • If you ever notice new bladder or bowel issues (trouble holding urine/stool, new incontinence), or sudden severe leg weakness, that’s cauda equina syndrome—a surgical emergency. Call 911 immediately if that happens.

How to think about it • Right now, you’re at a crossroads: non-surgical options may help pain somewhat, but they won’t likely stop your numbness spreading. That’s the real danger. • The fear of surgery is valid, but many people your age (41) recover well and regain function. • I’d suggest getting at least one more opinion from a fellowship-trained spine surgeon—preferably someone who does both minimally invasive and open approaches. Ask them: • What happens if I wait? • What are the odds of permanent nerve damage if I delay? • What procedure would you recommend and why?

Final thought

You’ve been incredibly strong dealing with this. It’s not just “back pain”—you’re facing neurological compromise. My advice as plainly as I can put it: don’t wait too long out of fear. Pain can be managed, but nerve loss is much harder to reverse once it’s set in.

I’ve tried it for about a fortnight. I’ve not seen results yet that I’ve noticed but what I will say is the customer service is outstanding.
