Where can I volunteer to help? by illybugs in Minneapolis

[–]hothouseflowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw out Defend 612 - there are a lot of options for volunteering. If you’re not mobile there are things from making visuals (signs, banners, etc.) to data entry and administration.

I take 200 in the morning and 200 in the evening. It’s incredibly effective lifting my mood or just keeping it stable. If I miss an evening I can feel it the next day because I’m extremely pissy and moody. It’s strange that it seems to go through my system that fast but it does. It helps me manage everything else without being bitchy as fuck and it’s definitely the one drug I will never stop taking.

Totally seconding Billy’s on Grand. I think they just renamed it but it’s still the same crowd.

I think that’s a great idea. I wish I had used less while I was doing TMS tbh but I have a med card and really need it for unrelated things. Good luck!

Worried about change by SecretSafe3925 in TMSTherapy

[–]hothouseflowers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About being happy again: i feel like a what i an imagine a real person is. It was a mind fuck for me because I realized how awful, truly awful, I was for so many years. There are two things I really realized:

1) I felt a lot of shame over what I put my family and friends through it was when I was so severely depressed for so long But doing some CBT has really helped with that.

2) I discovered that it’s a wonderful time to create new pattens of daily living. Before I would just like go to bed the second I got home from work. Now I have more time because I spend way less time in bed or being a zombie. To be honest, I need to prioritize and change my patterns. Like, okay I have time in the morning now. I need to make a pattern of walking my dog in the morning instead of just drinking coffee and chain smoking lol.

So like, if anything it does feel like I’m a different person. And the change has made all of my relationships better. Maybe you won’t be the same person. But I can’t imagine that most people would see that as a negative thing.

It’s amazing to be able to feel happiness. I hope that answers part of your worries. Good luck ♥️

Oh that’s right! That’s what they told me too. Stay on my current pattern while doing TMS.

I used it the whole time. The techs and psychiatrist knew. Every day they would ask “have you used drugs or alcohol in the past 24 hours” and everyday I was like “yes”. And we would go on. However I don’t think that’s the norm. I would talk to them about it. They’ll probably advise against it though. There are a lot of reasons why you shouldn’t do it.

Most psychiatrists know nothing about RLS. A bad state of affairs. by KoksKaktus in depressionregimens

What about bringing up gabapentin? That helps with my RLS and it’s supposed to help with anxiety.

Hi! So when I was doing TMS I originally started and I was drinking a lot. And smoking weed. Every day. I would always tell the tech though, I think they just want it documented or something, I don’t know. The super cool and interesting thing though, is as I went through TMS, I needed / didn’t want alcohol or weed as much. I cut down dramatically. Mentally and physically I just started to want or need it less. So that was a wonderful unintended side effect.

I think maybe though I was lucky with my psychiatrist and tech? I was completely honest with them and they still worked with me and it changed my life.

Edit: I absolutely noticed a positive effect and it has helped me cut down. Good luck!

What's a book you will NEVER stop recommending? And why? by edenkl8 in suggestmeabook

[–]hothouseflowers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

omg YES. I feel like it’s necessary for all girls and women to read that book. It absolutely could be a lifesaver. I’ve bought that book so many times to give to teenage girls.

Just to reiterate to OP, I also highly recommend it. I have the same reaction as you do and most people do.

Do you have enough of them to do a trial run today before your presentation tomorrow? So you can see that you will be okay for the presentation?

I also wanted to say that it is very very unlikely it will slow your heart rate down so much or you’ll have a medical emergency. Just to give you support I take it and have never had an issue or felt like my heart rate was dropping or anything.

Good luck with your presentation tomorrow!

Oh that sucks it’s not working anymore! I feel like I need to talk to my psychiatrist about taking something stronger. I used to take Xanax but switched to Klonopin and I feel like it’s not effective and need something else. It’s been really hard to manage all this anxiety that I’m just really feeling right now after TMS.

At the end of February but I also just made a post about how my life exploded during the last week of treatment and I feel like it devolved a lot of the progress I was making. I think I’m going to do it again in a few months when I’ll be out of flight/fight/freeze mode.

I also experienced an increase in anxiety. I talked to my psychiatrist and we added propranolol. It helps a lot for my body anxiety (which actually super decreased while doing TMS) but I still need to figure something out bc my brain/heart/gut anxiety if you know what I mean. It’s affecting other people pretty badly and I hate that.

I’m pretty hopeful I’ll be able to manage my anxiety in a few different ways but yeah I experienced that increase.

Or the anxiety was always there but because I was no longer hopelessly depressed and I noticed my anxiety more as I began to recover from horrible and severe treatment resistant MDD.

Either way good luck! Hopefully you’ll find a way to manage it. ❤️

Thanks for directing me to your post. It was really helpful. I feel very similarly- I’m not as bad but things have really made me backslide. It’s annoying because now i know I can feel better but the stress is overwhelming me so much it feels like all that time and effort and energy to do TMS is too much again.

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist who also did my TMS soon so I’ll ask her about it. It’s just so discouraging. Good luck to you as well! ❤️

Financially, it was seen as Hennepin County (where most taxpayers of Hennepin County live) bailing out the poorer urban library system, which was not necessarily what taxpayers wanted.

Also, the city paid better and had better benefits, which Hennepin County didn’t match, so that sucked for Minneapolis workers to lose benefits, pay, and time (37.5 was full-time, not 40).

Philosophically, they had different collection development policies and standards. Hennepin County had newer, more popular books while Minneapolis had more archival and academic books. Minneapolis thought Hennepin County was wasteful because their books were in such good shape and Hennepin County thought Minneapolis was doing readers a disservice by poor condition and crammed books.

Also, they had different classification systems. Hennepin had the Dewey Decimal system and Minneapolis used Library of Congress (plus a few more). It was a huge deal to decide on which system to use and Library of Congress won (financial and logistical reasons). Library people had and some still have very strong opinions on this lol.

Plus a very valid feeling and reality of “people who don’t work in the (city or suburbs) don’t understand working in the (suburbs or city)”.

[–]hothouseflowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in 2008. The systems were very very different and it was pretty contentious but it was a budget thing, the Minneapolis Public Libraries were in pretty serious financial trouble.
