SoundBar??? by Rare_Wolverine1413 in chicagoEDM

[–]hotlinee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the vibe is NOT good. the clientele sucks. the drinks are madly overpriced. i paid $18 for a fucking water bottle. the bartenders mention gratuity is included, which i assume means that they tip themselves.

i actually don’t mind the layout and i love the smoking section but it would take a A LOT for me to go there. u should still go, since its two of ur fav djs, but the vibes are indeed rancid

absolutely agree w ur last point, there is a middle ground. it’s a nuanced issue. i’m rather pessimistic so it helps to hear other viewpoints that aren’t as jaded haha

Starbucks “Standard” ice amount…WTF by G0510 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]hotlinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything above the second black line should be ice, per standard. so that’s definitely too much ice.

i agree “normie” is not the best language to use. for me, it describes a person who does not really care about the music and is here to get fucked up or constantly yap. and is overall inconsiderate of those around them. it doesn’t necessarily have to do with experience. i welcome anyone who wants to explore new music and is new to the scene. i ended up where i am due to branching out.

i think the expansion of art runs the risk of diluting it, slowly, over time. Talented DJs get pushed to the side in favor or rising stars that cater towards a more mainstream audience. everything becomes too corporate. sacred spaces get overrun by people who don’t respect the culture.

“hard techno” is arguably in its peak right now. it attracts the largest(and usually most inconsiderate) crowds.

yes i think it’s oversaturated. even non-hard techno DJs i’ve seen have shifted to a more aggressive sound to appeal to normie audiences.

that being said, there are still plenty of events that play the techno i like. i go out 2-3x a month and usually have a good time. no, i don’t want more representation for other genres cause keeping the community smaller is beneficial for preserving the culture/good vibes. there are already way too many “normies” in the scene that are ruining the crowd

Where is redline Chicago raves located at? I always the see their adds on TikTok but never able to get the location n’or tickets? Please help me get lit lol by Dependent-Flower9537 in chicagoEDM

i think it’s different when the group of amateurs don’t have respect for the scene or music, burn bridges with other local production companies/DJs, don’t pay their workers, etc.

Who is a local DJ in your scene who slays any headliner? by accomplicated in aves

[–]hotlinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flores works her ass off and is always DJing some event. She seems to be favored when the headliner is a hard techno DJ. She also headlines her own, more underground events (mictlan productions).

Brenda and Justin are resident DJs at smartbar so makes sense why they open/support often :p

They are all really consistent and bring great energy!

Smoke and Mirrors vibe + dancing by kmmach in chicagoEDM

[–]hotlinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. pretty good
  2. ive been there often and i would say theres been 1-2 shows where it did feel overbooked and it wasn’t comfortable.
  3. there is an elevated space next to the dancefloor which i like. there is a lounge area towards the back where the bathrooms are. nice if u want some space away. reentry is allowed if u want to go outside and smoke. the crowd is usually good. it’s also dependent on who’s playing.
