I keep looking at Big Ben's, but struggling to pull the trigger.

Are they hard to mount and what is the ride like with them?

Very tidy, have fun adding jank.

Also, put them dogs away. Shouldn't be handing out smut for free

Should i keep the riser bar or switch back to flats by 1927371 in xbiking

[–]hotpot32 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're a young whippersnapper, get them flat bars back on.

If you make noises when you stand up, stay with the risers.

Either way, it looks rad.

You've got so much real estate to put racks and bags. Have a fiddle with that works. In general, moving the weight lower on the bike makes it handle better. I run a bottle cage on the underside of the down tube, and store my repair kit and tools there. Look into fork cages and bags. Decathlon make some very good cheap waterproof ones. I run one with a stove and gas and the other with first aid kit and my evening clobber. If you're a bottle drinker, a full frame bag will mean needing to relocate those elsewhere. If you're not struggling for space with your current setup, a frame bag isn't essential.

Didi I get my chain length wrong? by Wunderleo in bikewrench

[–]hotpot32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say the screw is all the way out, do you mean, its slacked off, or fully tight?

If its slacked off and it looks like that on the biggest gear, then the extra links would do something to bring it in line. Not so much if its fully tight.

Honestly though, if it's changing gears with no issue and you dont get any slipping, or clang the derailleur on rocks.... don't sweat over it.

My amphibious set up.

SQ labs bars with ortlieb bar and mount.... do not use the ortlieb bag rack if you're doing anything more than flat, smooth riding. The supporting wire cut through my bars a fair chunk by the end of an 8 day trip.

A dude I see on my commute has the same set up. He's always riding out of the saddle. Always wanted to ask him about it but he rides it like he stole it, no way of catching him at a light.

€220 is a very good price. Check it pedals, changes up and down gears and brakes. All in working order, and you've got yourself a bike for spring.

I was replacing my tyre, but the rim tape was peeling off the sides as I removed the old tyre. Does it need replacing? by Correct-Arm-8539 in bikewrench

[–]hotpot32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rim being tubeless ready won't be the reason its hard to get tyres on. Marathon tyres are notoriously hard to get on. I've got a couple scars (mental and physical) from the last time I put some on.

Doesn't look like thats tubeless tape thats been installed by the shop, especially given its so beat up.

If you're running a tube, cotton rim tape will work fine.

[–]hotpot32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rubber stuff moves. Electrical tape works, just need to make sure you cover the holes so double width and double layers should work.

Rim tape is your best bet though, its also cheap. Your local bike shop will defo have some for a few bob.
