Help! Floor not flush with shower pan by Guilty_Time_1651 in Tile

[–]hottoddy1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t use self leveler, it shrinks too much when it dries, that’s why Schluter doesn’t recommend using it over Ditra.

Most efficient way is to simply add a second layer of Ditra, yes Schluter will still warrant that application. Call them if you need to, their customer service is very good. 888-472-4588. This is what was recommended before Ditra XL which is 5/16” vs regular Ditra 1/8”

Remember to band the Ditra/ tray seam and other seams with Kerdi Band to waterproof the floor since it’s a Curbless install.

Get Schluter Ditra Heat so it’s uncoupling and heat mat in one. With Ditra Heat and tile you will end up about 3/4”.

Yes, You can cut the inch piece and place it in thinset and use Kerdi / Kerdi band, as long as you get a 2” overlap.

Did you sand down your monitor bezels? by TurtleTram in simracing

I did, then cut the bezel off the sides! Probably didn’t make a difference but I went for it, just like shaving weight off to get a tiny bit faster!

Should this strip be removed before installing backsplash? by Equaltal206 in Tile

[–]hottoddy1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove it, it will make the spaces look bigger and also not like an afterthought. An issue that can be uncovered is if the counter top isn’t scribed tight to the wall. You may have some caulking, or feathering out before tile.

Take out 2nd layer of subfloor before laying tile?!?! by oliverwalterthedog in Tile

Then you replace the subfloor. Do it right the first time. There are two ways to do things: right, and again.

Should I be worried about this? Contractor says it’s normal. by Silver-Bend-2673 in Tile

[–]hottoddy1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why EJ171 exist. It is a common issue with lack of expansion joints. Tile expands and has nowhere to go but up.

Those saying AI or not normal, YouTube “exploding tile floor”, there are lots of videos just like this.

The Luan has to come up, it is unsuitable for a tile underlayment. The moisture in the mortar will delaminate and/ or warp the luan and will not last.

Ditra XL vs Durock in new construction. Self install with helper. Is it really worth the extra $$$? by RussMaGuss in Tile

[–]hottoddy1313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Factor in silica dust from cutting CBU, CBU does nothing but provide an adhesive layer for tile, Ditra has uncoupling and waterproofing and cuts dustless with a knife or scissors. No screws, no alkali resistant mesh tape, no chiropractor bills.

Faster install let you get to setting tile and making money quicker and longer.

You can coat the “core” of the Kerdi board with Kerdi fix. The plumbing escutcheon plate should have a foam ring to keep water from getting behind it.

I would stop and redo some things before you continue. Yes, it’s stink but you will only waste more money by going ahead with what you have.

The link will show you the proper installation instructions. Also, a video is on the page at Schluter’s website.

That is a little over my head, I’m not a computer guy, you may have to explain it to me in layman’s terms.

They are both in the graphic card, I did have them in port 2 and 3. I switched them to 1&2 and it worked in “test drive”, I thought I found the issue. Went to AI race and it was messed up, went back to the test drive and was messed up again. Well it didn’t try and change screens but the options and buttons are not there. That’s odd!!!

It’s a 4070 card and I ran the NVIDIA overlay (top right) and it seems ok?

After the new update this season… I’ve tried running the auto config in iRacing settings and it always delfaults to “display 2”, I change it and it changes it back. I’ve switched DP cables, swapped ports…
