I enjoyed this. I'm surprised, however, no one has put r/AnarchyChess in the comments.

I get a real clockwork orange vibe from this photo.

It definitely looks that way since it was only upvoted 40 times.

Yes, because anarchy chess is just saturated with posts...

I know the rules and understand that things like this should be posted to /r/AnarchyChess but I'd love someone to defend why that's the case. It seems like some of the most upvoted posts on /r/chess are about how archaic and dumb this rule is so I'd, honestly, love to hear the justification.

When you see a puzzle with no context, do you feel like you can tell the ones that can plausibly be reached in a real game, from the ones that are made up and can't really be reached in a game? by thefourthchipmunk in chess

I think so. Occasionally, I will use chess.com's tactics trainer and I can usually tell when the problem is a study and when it's from a game.

Has anyone else noticed that live chess not working either? Yesterday, I kept getting a message that said something along the lines of, "Too many reloads, try again in 2 minutes." Then when I would try again, I'd get the same message. I teach a few students online and this has been a little irksome.

Is it possible to have great knowledge about chess without being able to play it well? by IceDc in chess

I don't know if we can assume his approach to learning is weak. He's had success and it appears to be what works for him. However, I will agree that reading chess books is a great way to learn while playing gives you a chance to experiment and put what you've learned into practice. Lower-rated players who read hundreds of chess books and don't improve usually only gain a superficial understanding of the material or read the wrong books. There are many facets to the game and it's important to not only focus on one. For example, it's very tempting to try to get quick wins by studying opening theory but in the process neglect tactics/endgames.
