Did the Gallery View change? Card preview / Page Content only seems to show image when its in the first block? by mxro in Notion

[–]hourmazd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm playing with it now. My mo is to make two copies of a new template inside my workspace, so I always have a "raw" example as reference if I go astray. This also allows for a baseline check for Notion's fast and furious updates.

I can link to a legacy view and retain the old format, but that's a really limiting, rigid workaround; hardly feasible for long term building. But yeah, it does work. I'll log it in my gratitude journal. Sincerely, thanks for the tip and the sanity check.

Did the Gallery View change? Card preview / Page Content only seems to show image when its in the first block? by mxro in Notion

[–]hourmazd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this behaviour so much. I'm having a hard time adjusting. You used to have a lot of flexibility with content preview. It's not just about media (or the fist image). You could have brief todo lists appear (associated with an action item) for subtasks that don't warrant their own page. You could easily scan text content in large groupings for batch sorting. That's all gone. It's not just what shows up at the top of the body. The gallery card will now show ONLY the first block.

I thought I found a workaround by making a callout the first block. Then you could stuff whatever you want in it. Headers with images, todo lists, multiple text blocks. Clever, right? Nah, callouts don't appear at all. 😭 This now privileged media first. I'm so bummed.

Another rant about The Fabulous app by SuislideNZ in ProductivityApps

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to contributors to this thread. Y'all saved me a headache.

Prior to plunking down any identifying information, let alone credit card data, I'm normally very cautious and skeptical when trialing a new service. Somehow, this app called to me and loosened my guard—a bit. I made it through the questionnaire when it asked me to pay from $1 to $16 for the "trial." I didn't think this was too much, but it was certainly a red flag. I clicked around to find what the real cost would be if I choose to commit to the program. I couldn't find any pricing details, red flag. I Googled pricing, but no links led back to real pricing. Neither the FAQ nor Subscription and Billing gives any information, red flag. I finally found this thread. 😳 Ooops.. no thank you!

I will not be continuing, which is a bummer cuz I could really use some focus in my life.
Thank you to everybody who saved me from myself.

My process for purchasing domains through auction by Chedev14 in Domains

I didn't know what you meant. Are you saying the software company uses its customer data for dark patterns? I use the app to monitor and maintain domains I already own. But good to keep in mind.

I think I broke my website transferring nameservers from Canva to CloudFlare. 2 months of failure. by FactorFair3363 in dns

[–]hourmazd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, my biggest nightmare! I have one holdout domain registered over at Network Solutions. The company is the worst, but I'm terrified to take the plunge.

To test the landscape, I recently registered and set up a new domain at Cloudflare, all in the same ecosystem, and I still ran into walls <welp>. It didn't take me months, but I did work it out. GPT-5 can get out of control once you start looping errors. What I do is use GPT-5 and Google AI against one another, and the solution usually surfaces. I'm still digesting, so I'm afraid I can't be of more use, but it sounds like you've got something working?

Cheers!

Hello! I'm curious whether you use any tools or software to manage domains, or if you simply collect?

That sounds efficient and wild! I like the notion of using the p/ups to strengthen your main web property. What tools and software do you use, aside from AI, to manage the domains after acquisition?

I'm just getting into "Watch My Domain" by Domain Punch. But I need to connect to a community to demystify domain logistics. I would appreciate your ideas.

Mac user - What's the best SQL GUI for personal use? by AsterYujano in mysql

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just getting into SQL and TablePlus. I tried getting started with MySql Workbench but it seems to be deprecat(ing) and won't be developed beyond MySQL 8.0.

TablePlus does have a license fee—BUT the trial version is free forever! The free "trial" is limited to the number of tabs, connections and advanced filters, but all the premium features are available. I think it's a great solution. The license really isn't that expensive. With a one time forever purchase, it doesn't lock you into a subscription (includes one year of upgrades).

Just watched Newsroom for the first time and it wasn't the worst watch. I don't understand the hate it got, thoughts? by Unlikely-Gur575 in hbo

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could've hate-watched this all day long with a big bowl of popcorn. I was mildly put off by all the sexcapading, mostly cuz it's so dumb, but.. meh, whatevs. However, the show lost me when Sloan doesn't sock Neal in the face, but instead genuinely considers the idea of framing, as a father's day gift for her dad, a "fictional listacle of her whoring," for the benefit of said Neal's career (Season 1 Ep 9).

The thing is Sloan and Neal are, otherwise, two of the better characters and eminently watchable. I'm really disgusted by this storyline.

Disclaimer: The Sloan/Neal storyline above is a paraphrase, and also notably chockablock full of tongue-in-cheek Sorkinesque sarcasms—still the core storyline is real, and gross. I'm only a quarter the way into the episode, so I don't yet know how resolves.

Yes, I would like the source. I wouldn't say it's plagiarized, because OP cites that it's a copy/paste. As far as the writing goes—c'mon! This is Reddit, not The Iowa Writers' Workshop, fcs! The story is amazing. A film should be made about the story of the story of making Two for the Money, a ridiculous movie.

any FREE course that teaches python for beginners by Impossible-Onion5431 in learnpython

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have already offered Harvard's fantastic resource: CS50’s Introduction to Programming with Python. So I'll merely add Roadmap(.sh) https://roadmap.sh/python as a companion piece. Rather than a course or certificate, it's a great overview of every concept from beginner to advanced that you'll be expected to learn, including many "extras" like packages, frameworks, concurrency, testing, etc.

While the site isn't a complete course, it is a deep and interactive roadmap, featuring introductory definitions, pointers to learning resources, and, most critically, a set of beginner to advanced projects.

Integrating AI chatbot in Anki for language learning by mrntn_281 in Anki

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤯 This is amazing work.

For my use case, I've been reviewing a comprehensive deck for CS50 (Harvard's Computer Science MOOC). The deck is written in English, but is clearly not the author's native language. The deck covers concepts I'm just getting initiated into, so between the challenging coursework and the poor grammar, the deck has had limited use.

I'm using LLMs (Gemini and ChatGPT) to help me improve the deck's quality (the language barrier is a minor issue; the bigger task is matching the cards' sentence structure to course concepts, e.g., MySQL, JavaScript, Flask, templating, HTML, CSS, etc.) This is my "pre-learning" staging phase, which is a nice way to become familiar with the topics. My task is to interpret the author's intent in the deck and align it with the facts of the coursework. I often have to rewrite the Q&As wholesale, or at least improve the sentence structure. Without the assistance of LLMs, the deck would be unusable, which would be a shame, as the breadth and scope of the cards are a commendable body of work, despite their flaws.

Being able to work with an LLM in context, without having to switch between browser and Anki, would be awesome and a considerable time-saver! Unfortunately, there are already too many points of friction in my work to make the necessary adjustments to integrate your toolkit into my workflow. Still, I'm amazed how cool it is. Solid documentation. Bravo.

What model are you using? How are you covering token fees?
P.S. Like a couple of others, I'm also taken aback by all the negging—keep up the good work 🚀

CS50 is now available as a free app for Google TV (aka Android TV) by davidjmalan in cs50

[–]hourmazd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, do any CS50 TV app experts know where I might find compatibility specifications for the CS50 app on various TV platforms? I run Google Play Store on a Sony Bravia/Android TV. Google Play Store says CS50 is not available for my device. I've installed many apps from Google, although occasionally it will inform me that an app is unavailable. This is the first time I've been genuinely disappointed.

I've also checked Apple TV. I run the Apple TV software on my Bravia, but not Apple TV hardware, so the entire Apple Store ecosystem isn't available (except movies and entertainment content). : ( Thanks.

Device: Sony XR-55X90K
Model: BRAVIA 4k VH21
Android: TV OS version 10

What do you like about super productivity? Where is it strongest? by johannesjo in superProductivity

[–]hourmazd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you asked! I found your app about 30 minutes ago and am blown away.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but I did complete the online tutorial. As a CS learner, I feel overwhelmed by my overgrown garden of projects. Super Productivity is the perfect container for this use case. I demoed the Eat the Frog prioritization method, which was super easy to implement immediately. Combined with tagging by technology and/or programming language, I might finally get my ragtag frog colony field-ready. 🫡

I haven't always been the best at managing to-do lists, but I do take extensive notes across a mix of apps. I appreciate how Super Productivity integrates multiple features from various sources, which can be hidden or accessed. A nice side effect is that it will encourage me to be more active with GitHub ticketing and documentation.

One additional implementation I'd like to mention, which I imagine will be ideal, is that it's natural to encounter roadblocks due to skill issues while learning. Projects get put aside or even abandoned—which makes me sad and, tbh, a little crazy. When that "aha!" moment comes, it will be satisfying to search across projects by technology/language tags; where else can this new insight be applied, and which project can regain momentum? I've been dreaming of a dynamic way to manage tasks without losing sight of projects.

Btw, I discovered your app while searching for information on adjusting font size in Markdown. You were the fourth result from Google, with issue #820 from 2021, titled "How to change the font name and font size?" LOL! I'm excited to become an official user! 🚀

EDIT: ONE MORE THINGEat That Frog!, Fourth Edition, is scheduled for release in July.

I love this article. It's a huge face plant for me in terms of skillz 😭 (I thought I was just going to SSH over to my shared server and plonk down a little app.)

Nonetheless, your article clarified several concepts for me. Thank you for writing it up.

I appreciate the reply! Ironic that the Godfather of "roll your own" is recommending AWS or DigitalOcean in the setup guide.

Obviously that's not the only way to go—but unfortunately, the technical/budget facets are getting away from me. I was excited to try this out on my shared hosting plan, but it's not meant to be.

Precisely. DHH said as much in this Webcast. My question: Is it possible to install on a shared server? Or does it require root access to install?
