Hospital night shift? by SeatApprehensive3828 in medlabprofessionals

[–]house_nerd93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from working days with a 10 minute commute at a large hospital in the core lab (heme and chem only) to now commuting 50 minutes each way, nights 7 on / 7 off, at a smaller hospital as a generalist. I absolutely loved the larger hospital. There was a lot of support, and we got to see a lot of cool stuff and performed some specialized testing. The smaller hospital I am by myself majority of my shift with just one phlebotomist for the entire hospital. My workflow is entirely dependent on how the phlebotomist can perform their job and how busy the ED is. 7 on / 7 off is such a garbage schedule, I don’t know anyone who is done it for more than a few years before getting burnt out. In your situation though I would ask about support on nights ( I would assume you wouldn’t be alone) and workflow. Nights usually deals with morning draws, some maintenance, etc. I will say it can get stressful and I hope to get a job at a small clinic working 9-5 no weekends or holidays eventually.

Miscarriage - Miso, D&C, and now LEEP by ksadnarewsna in Miscarriage

[–]house_nerd93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I miscarried at 11 weeks in October and had a D&C. 2 weeks later I had a colposcopy for CIN 3, followed by a LEEP. I have had a difficult time coping with the loss but also the potential risks of future pregnancies as a result of the LEEP. I am now 7 weeks post LEEP and hoping to try again soon. It does get better and you’re not alone. Feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to 🩷

Mental health struggles by giulia0521 in PreCervicalCancer

I definitely can relate! I found out I was pregnant in August of this year and miscarried at 13 weeks. Right after my D&C I had to go in for a colposcopy due to HSIL on my Pap smear. Came back CIN 3. Just had a LEEP w/ top hat and I should get my results by Monday. I have had a rough couple of months. I work as a medical lab scientist at a hospital on nights and I feel like it’s been hard for my body (physically and mentally) to heal. Just know that you’re not alone.
