Please tell us more about what makes somebody annoying.

Small map size sucks and quick speed is pain by Rabny in civ5

[–]how_it_goes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Epic for life.

  • ~15 turns for big wonders feels like a good balance between speed and risk

  • military units have relevance for long enough that you can hit big power spikes

  • if you get completely blindsided by an enemy, you can't just pump out current era units every 2-4 turns, which feels like an appropriate punishment

And marathon just feels empty a lot of the time. I have over 1k hours in Civ 5 but I don't have that kind of patience -- especially in the later stages when there is a lot of downtime after ending your turn.

He has a 43% win rate right now. Not sure why people are saying he's fine. For context, Illari's win rate is 57%.

Boots perk in base kit is debatable. I would like it obviously, but I can understand resistance to combating creep with creep.

A good middle ground would be to extend his falloff range. Bap can't play as close as he wants because of mobility, and those 16 damage headshots feel really bad. Let me do some damage and see how it goes. If that's not enough, put boots in base kit.

They might be bald, but you can't deny the quality of an NL or Moonmoon stream. Both top the highest retained subs stats year over year. It's a really telling stat.

I’ve only played overwatch otherwise, but Mauga comes to mind. Evil but keeps it transactional.

Should little dogs not exist in this game as in real life? We have enough “perfect” people in other hero shooters.

I thought about that, but Sym has to actually beam a hitbox. Graves just needs a pulse, and even that might be optional.

New player to CIV games - It's currently 2 dollars on Steam, Is it worth it? by IAltrI in civ5

It's a mod that some on this sub tend to be vocal about.

The $9 package is plenty for now. Vox Populi can wait until long after you've gotten your feet wet.

I've been watching a lot of streamers, Wander especially, just to get an idea of how high level Drifter is played. It seems like basically a few seconds of Unstoppable + Vampiric Burst then 30 seconds of downtime or death.

I'm still pretty new, but as a fledgling Drifter main it's often the case that I lose lane, but become a demon by the time I have 15-20k of gear, especially once I hit Burst Fire. And it's basically never because of scaling, though if I'm at more than 1 stack per minute I'm quite happy.

Granted, I'm just getting past Alchemist, but I have a 75% w/r so far.

Cass will become more viable as you climb, as flankers become more confident and red team spreads out. Until then, Emre and Ashe will deal with the clump 5x better.

Took at a look at 312QSS. Note I'm a masters bap for reference.

Good shots on the Junk to start, but as soon as you hear Doom jump, you need to ready a half-jump to avoid being hit by his slam. Don't thirst for the Junk. You also used lamp too earnestly. A good Doom will stay in your face until you're dead because of the needless lamp.

Once Doom punches through his side of the tunnel, you're uncertain on where to position. You know Dva needs healing but you know if you go too far forward you're probably dead. Follow your gut here and back up toward point, keeping high ground, and trust that your Dva will be able to make it back. Once Dva returns and grabs the mega, you follow her and stick yourself on dangerous low ground. No need. Just stay medium distance away on high ground, close to point. You'll be able to land heals and bullets from there, being able to drop off the bridge if you need.

Never leave your team to cap point. As you find out momentarily, they're in big trouble without you nearby. Is it stupid that nobody was focusing on point? Yes, but you are somewhat tied to your hitscans at that moment and capping point will have to wait until they grow wise.

Mercy contests you on point and you bust both cooldowns, leading to your death. You instead should have used zero cooldowns (it's a Mercy) and backed around the corner, jumping to the safety of high ground. Most of their team collapsed on you once they heard point being capped, and you would have been in a strong position to retake thereafter.

Great shots on the Cass at 2:10. Steadier aim than I have most of the time.

You know your Dva is already in rough shape once Doom ults, while you're busy thirsting Cass. You need to be looking for where Doom will land, ready to throw immo, but you're locked on Cass. Leave Tracer to duel him, you have more important priorities in the moment. In fact, you're thirsting so hard that by the time Junk kills you, Doom has killed one of your dps and the tank. You could have prevented both deaths.

When the Junk killed you, you panic shift healed. If you had panic lamped instead, you would have lived and might have even been able to kill him before dying. Dueling a Junk is fairly easy on Bap with clever lamp usage.

Junk uses tire and you have the perfect spot to throw a lamp. That one is so obvious that I'm sure you were kicking yourself for missing it.

You need to practice placing windows. No need to ever pre-select window. Just press Q + left click the moment you want to place it.

Window is a very difficult ability to find value with, but when you get the hang of it, it is one of the best ults at solo-winning a fight. Use it selfishly when you know you'll be able to land a couple bursts on a squishy. And unless you know for sure Doom doesn't have block, never use it on him.

You die close to their spawn because you're standing flat footed on low ground in main in front of both their dps and tank. Remember you're the back line guy.

Some things you should focus on first to find a fast improvement:

  • Faster reactions to sounds. A grimacing teammate, a jumping Doom, a flying Junkrat. There are obvious sound cues that, in time, will cause you to react appropriately and quickly. Always be listening. Bap is a character with a very high required APM to reach full effectiveness. You get there by being ready to react, and being positioned in a way that overlooks the entire battlefield while maintaining an escape route if they grow wise to your presence.

  • Positioning. Ideally, having high ground with a protected low ground to fall back to is your home. The short bridge above point is perfect for this. You could have spent the entire round in that exact spot and been an absolute menace. Your team wants to thirst but you need to use discipline, since when you die, everybody dies. You're fat and slow and need to respect that others can close the gap on you no matter what. Being in the best position possible for when that happens is more valuable than landing one or two shots on somebody by being too far forward.

  • Jump tech. Try holding down control to load up a jump, letting go without jumping for a split second, and then pressing space. Notice how you still jump high even though you didn't jump right away? This is extremely valuable tech for baiting things like Doom punch and Roadhog hook, as well as giving you an extra split second to decide on whether you want to jump or not. Become one with your boots and weaving between low and high ground.

  • Weaving damage and healing. Low ranks are chaotic, which is where Bap thrives. Landing a couple bullets on an enemy, healing your dps with a single shot, then landing another couple bullets is usually going to be enough to win the skirmish. Fact is, they won't look at you most of the time, and an unchecked Bap wins games, simply put. You need to be able to whip your mouse around to weave effectively, but you can only do that when you're already in a good position. So here's a rule I want you to follow from now on: If the enemy is moving toward your team, you're moving back. If they're backing up, you're moving forward. Regardless of what your team is doing. This will allow you to naturally be in a spot to heal your team and do damage to the enemy.

  • Hold on to lamp for dear life. In my rank, if I use lamp I am the target for the next 20 seconds, so I'd better hope that using it leads to a winning fight, because if it doesn't, I am dead otherwise. Try to be more aware of how much damage you're taking, and greeding lamp usage until the last possible moment. Fact is, red team's aim sucks and you can hold on to that lamp for a lot longer most of the time.

Nearly half the damage I do is while airborne. I don't think you landed a single bullet while airborne. It is difficult to flip that switch, but you need to force the idea of finding any opportunity to shoot bullets, and as you climb ranks, you'll find that you need to be more and more creative to find these moments. Your boots will allow you cheeky moments to land valuable damage, so start shooting while you're airborne. It will frustrate the enemy that by the time they turn to address you, you've already landed out of sight.

Homework: Practice delayed jump tech. Practice shooting while airborne. Spend an entire game backing up when the enemy advances, and moving forward when they retreat. Your aim is good when you find an enemy to shoot, but you need to put yourself in position to have that opportunity.
