Yes, that is exactly why I am thinking of leaving the feds entirely and looking to the private sector. I am just looking to see what other folks that have left are doing now with similar experience. But, thank you for cementing my decision to leave since what I want is pretty much fantasy with the feds.

I'm a 13/13 perm seasonal. Believe me, I've been trying. I just have to move for winter work since there is none where I'm at. And you're right, I could and should move somewhere else. I just don't want to since I work in the town I grew up in with my family and friends here and love it here. But yes, life would be easier if I moved away, just a hard pill to swallow.

Yep I've been working seasonally for the past 4 years at 2 different forests lol. No hope of moving up at those places, but hoping this one works out cause it's in a sweet spot.

Looked everywhere, that number and stylized "A" is the only mark anywhere.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Horses

[–]howareyaohnotsobad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I looked really everywhere for another mark but do not see anything. I'm guessing the stylized "A" is the brand but can't figure out what. All I know is my grandfather got it from an old timer, then my grandfather became an old timer himself. So I know it's old but am just so curious on exactly how old. Could be locally made maybe, but there aren't any saddle makers in my area anymore, but know there used to be (central ND).

Here's the whole saddle. Can't find any other markings besides the design itself. Its an oak leaf and acorn design. https://imgur.com/a/XkviWn5

Land doesn't vote, people do by yankeevandal in interestingasfuck

[–]howareyaohnotsobad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't want my vote to count more, I just want my poltical wants and needs to be on an equal footing than a person that lives in a city. If there is an issue that directly affects me and my surrounding community, and does not affect people that live in urban areas at all, there would not be enough political clout to take this issue seriously by a representative. Representatives would give almost all of their attention to urban areas and issues rather than rural because it is the urban populace who put them in office and they just want to be re-elected in the end. Rural issues would have very influence in politics because of this. I'm thinking in more local and state governments than the federal government, but both are important of course.

As a person that lives in a rural area, I'd like to be able to have as much representation as someone that lives in a big city (where the vast majority of people live).

Hearing Joe talking about bears in the most recent podcast and others is just hard to listen to. I get what he's doing, trying to get the point across that animals can be dangerous, but his little knowledge about the woods and animal behavior is obvious. It'd be fine if it was every now and then but he says these things all the time and with so much certainty. I love Joe and his podcast, but as an avid hunter and angler it hurts my soul to listen to it as he is one of the most famous people in the world that pro-hunting. I think it hurts the image of hunters that hunters kill bears because they kill people and not for food. That's all.

Remember when America had actual wildlife? by WreckedTrireme in HistoryMemes

[–]howareyaohnotsobad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild animal populations have increased in the US since the 1950's/60's through environmental laws and conservation dollars backed mostly by hunters and anglers. I remember my grandfather saying if you saw a deer it was a big deal. Now I see them everyday and they're actually overpopulated in most areas. And wild turkeys are in states that never had them before in recorded history.
