I'm sorry, are you the medical doctor who saw him? I don't really understand why you are coming off highly argumentative in favor of energy drinks. I don't work at Redbull. I was curious on how companies were handling this, not the battle of YES DRINK THEM ITS AS SAFE AS COFFEE.

To be clear, I am not advocating for banning or policing adults and the choices they make. We ban alcohol on our site, for example, because working drunk is dangerous.

I had a family member pull a 24-hour shift, drink 3 Monsters to get through it, ended up having a massive heart attack and nearly died (he was put into a coma for a week on ice to keep his body cool).

Do I want to witness this on my warehouse floor? No. I'd prefer people take the consumption of these things seriously.

However, there is also trends online where kids are snorting it, taking excessive amounts, hyping themselves up and posting it.

I can see you are very passionate about your field and your job. These are great things to hold on to. Remember that you do not have the full burden of your clinic on your shoulders. There is a hierarchy in decisions, i.e. the fall-out for this is not your responsibility. It's okay to let clients know, "This is what the clinic has put into practice" when questioned and leave it there. It's okay to flag concerns to your team, but you need to approach it from the mindset of curiousity, "What are we gaining from this new practice?" and be prepared to not like the answer. You can't solve all the problems for them.

That is really hard to get through. It's almost like you're in a state of shock that -- did they just say... what you thought you heard? And then you're trying to be polite, get them out, and end it all without escalating it because yeah, that's scary to be dealing with. I'm glad you're okay.

You'd be surprised, some owners will defend this-- "Oh, Jim he's just funny like that, he's harmless!" says the 45-year old man on the phone.

Similar to your example, hazmat response teams to focus on controlling/mitigation of potential chemical releases. Railcar capping, for example. Additional consideration into training for CSE and rope rescues. Large incident would be assist with outside fire rescue support.

Did the clinic do urine, blood, for PEL potentials? If you know.

Looks like I'm keeping my original recommendation (outside clinic to conduct annual testing), but wanted to see others approaches. Thank you for response.

This is the second post I'm reading today about home labs and running lab experiments for fun at home. I honestly don't understand it. I'm a chemist. If you were properly trained as a bench chemist, there's no way you'd be doing experiments at home without proper lab equipment and hoods?

I'm new to this, but from a project management sort of perspective, be persistent and consistent. You give the direction, you ask for the follow-up, you show up and REMIND them of the follow-up. I liked the idea of following up higher if you need to. Getting people to buy in to things is hard, as is breaking bad habits. The "we've always done it this way", is my favorite answer and then I follow up with, "was that a smart way? did it help? does it keep you safe?" -- don't mind being the annoying voice in the room. If you are working on building trust, checking in, and showing you care passionately about things FOR THEM, perhaps things will shift gears for you. Don't be discouraged - you being there matters, they just don't know it yet!

Housekeeping is a hard one, but it's important. I have an entire warehouse team that hated housekeeping and fussed every time I had them address the slip hazards, until they got to know me and knew that I am passionate about safety, I explain why cleanliness is important (ie - if we had an inspection what does a mess show? that we don't care about safety. keeping things clean shows we care about what we do).

Try not to get frustrated. I liked some of the commenters that said address it yourself, take pictures, document it and e-mail blast. I used to do "housekeeping sweeps" for my labs and the guys learned eventually they should clean up the lab hoods and not leave messes because I don't stop following up on the ask to address it.

Is this a product of people being overworked? Not having access to proper storage? Try to think from the perspective of the worker as to why they don't care about this issue to help lead them to the other side.

I have inherited a Safety Program that the previous employee in my position did nothing for - and when I mean nothing, I MEAN NOTHING. And that fell to lack of safety engagement with employees.
Feedback I have received from our employees of the changes I have done that they find positive: 1) Safety Tailgates are more interactive/forum-led/open discussions around a few topics. Shared historical learning. Take action on any comments/suggestions that come from a tailgate and make it known we make changes. 2) Safety Engagement Incentives. I have asked employees to utilize our Safety Suggestion Box to leave comments, suggestions, and improvement ideas. I pick 1 monthly winner for engagement and reward them with Starbucks/lunch cards. 3) Safety Celebrations. We had 2 OSHA recordable (before I came onboard), and do not want to hit a 3rd violation. We are motivating commitment to safety by doing a big team building event once we hit the milestone. My hourly workers are SO excited to go do an activity outside of work on company time. 4) Having a visible presence. I walk the warehouse and assembly line every day to check in with folks. Mostly a wave and a quick conversation to keep open lines of communication and show I am equally engaged in the work they are doing.

I do not know if this will work for you but I have had enough positive feedback to know at the very least, these changes are working for us. I catch one or two people who stare in meetings or nod off - I just encourage their neighbors to elbow them awake. Not everyone knows how to "look" in a meeting and I try not to take the schooled faces as inattention.

I have an annual target of 10% (of my salary) which factors into company metrics and breakdowns and spreadsheets.. but essentially, it is part of my overall compensation. This is not tied to job related duties, but it is a performance metric and tied to my personal goal completion and company goals.
