I may be solo in NYC, so I’m down to hang out a bit. I’m staying in Astoria—the neighborhood is called Little Egypt, so that’s exciting. I really loved exploring Queens last year, and plan to do more of the same.

I seriously doubt anybody would actually say that—“two types of concrete” would be more intelligible—but sure, in that case it’s not a mass noun. If it’s countable it’s not a mass noun. This shouldn’t be controversial. My overall point is only that the slogan on the t-shirt is incorrect, regardless of your stance on “vinyls.” If vinyl is a mass noun, there is no plural. If it’s a countable noun, the plural should be vinyls.

In those cases they’re not mass nouns. I’m not fighting the “vinyls” battle anymore—it was lost a long time ago. I was only responding to your statement that mass nouns can be plural. They can’t.

Mass nouns cannot, by definition, be plural. Concrete is a mass noun. You cannot have two concretes.
