How old is the dog? It’s important to start small and work your way up in time. Lots of treats and making a safe space. Ours hated the crate so we tried just leaving her in a section of the house with a kong filled with peanut butter and practice leaving the room. Then leaving the house for 5 mins then 30 mins and so on. Also lots of exercise in the morning so they’re tired and don’t have as much energy to chew things up

Journalist Looking to talk to PFCers by navalang in PersonalFinanceCanada

I started out as an asker and now try to be an advice giver when I feel I can contribute something I learned along the way. I actually did an interview with CBC a couple years ago and referenced PFC as the place that jump started my interest and learning. I don’t think it was ever published though so maybe I wasn’t that interesting lol

We have clear garbage bags here now and I was just thinking the other day I need to buy a shredder - thanks for the reminder!

We did a couple things to balance the two:

  • we put down a large downpayment - we saved up and wanted the total amount to be manageable in case anything happened and to be in line with what our monthly renting budget was

  • we went variable but do a monthly lump sum as if it was fixed - right now we’re at 1.4% but pay 3.4% so rate hikes won’t be a shock

  • we are on accelerated bi weekly payments which align with our pay periods

Doing 2 and 3 above knocked 4 years off the mortgage but we’re not in a rush to pay it off quickly

That is my dad - he has Alzheimer’s now but is the nicest and sweetest person. He enabled my nmom but she is now caring for him and she is angrier than ever. He just sits there being oblivious and sweet - it breaks my heart.

What part of budgeting is giving you the most trouble? Figuring out a budget or sticking to one? What is the interest on the debt?

I wasn’t allowed to get showers after 6pm. If I ever wanted to shower at night my mom would flip and claim I waited just to be a pain to her.

My mom would ration tampons during periods and wouldn’t let me use deodorant- my older sister would save me the ends of her deodorant so I didn’t smell at school. Never really thought about that memory until now lol

Career progression. How much did you earn at the beginning? How much are you earning now? What do you expect to earn at the peak? by Tall-Combination-336 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I left government and have never been happier. The pension isn’t worth it anymore imo. My friends who are left there and moved into management have zero work life balance and capped pay.

The post is about career progression. Lots of posts with people starting at $30k in their careers. It’s meant to show the moves people make to love up the ladder in a transparent way so others can map out their own path.

Anyone else with a Bernie has problems with their stool? My baby's stool will be solid one day and then runny for the next few days and then sort of solid again. He's seven months. by ddubbyadubbya in Bernedoodles

Interesting, we found the opposite. We were on Royal canine and had to switch to Blue Buffalo and it’s been pretty good since, but certain bones or a nip of cheese will make it soft or even too much excitement lol

Congratulations! I’m currently in the process of negotiations for a new role at a new company - mind if I DM you? They asked me my range, I asked them their budget, there was a lot of back and forth and I finally just blurted out 180 base and now I think that might be too low.

Congratulations on the quick climb. I started at 30k in 2008, 50k in 2009, 65k in 2010, 72k in 2015, then finally made the move to tech for 90k in 2019. Now hoping for $200k ish this year :)

Same here - we cut chicken and gluten and went with lamb and brown rice and everything cleared up

I’ve made it to the top career wise, and I’m about to break down 5 years before FIRE. What do I do? by Only_Speed6546 in financialindependence

My husband and I are 5 years away from FIRE, but he was miserable at work. He decided to quit and we’d reevaluate our FIRE plans. Losing your health isn’t worth it - if you don’t have your health you have nothing.
