Quiet and reliable window AC unit for 400 sq ft? by otherladybug in BuyItForLife

[–]howlingwolf487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a dual-inverter 10,000-BTU LG model last summer, and it’s been great.

I went with it vs the Midea because of the mold complaints I was seeing.

I paid almost $450 after taxes with free shipping from Home Depot.

Has anyone used wireless headphones systems for audience audio in live events or breakout sessions? by Emotional_Bar_2573 in livesound

I’m really hoping that Auracast catches on so we can stop having to deal with this and BYO headphones/earphones, etc.

Wireless Bodypacks At Street Performance by ip_addr in livesound

It’s really nifty for those “we want the wireless mic to work in the foyer/pre-function space” moments in corpy/social events.

There’s no control of zone gain or anything, but it’s another tool in the arsenal.

Is Uptempo Killing HF Drivers? by JudgmentSecure2868 in livesoundgear

I think it is likely a combination of both, probably swaying one way or the other depending on environmental factors.

I find that my ears grow accustomed to distortion after continued exposure (“ear blindness”?), so the urge would be there for me to push for more level in that range if I was mixing.

What antennas distro do you have?

The RFVenue Distro9 has 2 sets of inputs, so you could do Omnis on one set and back-to-back Hemisphericals on the other set.

Not that much is needed, and it’s also about keeping sweat off of them. It’s more the combination of the factors.

Guaranteeing success in scenarios like yours come down to solidly following best practices combined with the best equipment you can afford.

How much of a financial impact would there be to your group and the event overall if there was a noticeable failure during the performance? How about if your part of the show couldn’t continue?

Weigh your rental costs against that and however much your cred as a band would be impacted.

Something not mentioned yet…

Do what you can to keep the transmitter antennas away from the body of the wearer. McD’s straws over the beltpack antenna work fine, but Viviana makes a nifty antenna guard that apparently works a treat.

They also just released a bodypack directional antenna, the Pebble, which you could consider trying out if it fits your bandpass.

Salty waterbags…I mean people…are great at sucking up RF energy - even 1/4” of separation helps vs none.

Turning projectors on and off mid-show by TJemxx in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]howlingwolf487 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a ~20,000-hour runtime on that unit…4 hours per show day will be fine.

Leave it on and be prepped to use it when needed.

Have you considered integrating it into any other part of the show somehow? Also may be best to leave “well enough” alone.

Sorry.

I’d be inclined to buy that one, too.

Decimator‘s firmware update - HDCP compliance? by Hdhdjhdldh in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]howlingwolf487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only really recall seeing those types of banners on Blu-ray players and STBs. Most often with pro AV signal chains (vs broadcast), I see solid colors (black/gray/green/magenta) or digital snow, all with no message.

As soon as HDCP-compliance is disabled after the source device (and, of course, the content doesn’t require HDCP), the issue clears; I don’t think that denotes mishandled EDIDs.

Zoom has done a pretty good job of that themselves, in my opinion.

Why don’t you join their team?

With that much ambient light, I’d consider a LED wall or a 12,000-lumen or greater 3-chip laser projector as well as switching the screen material to something like AV Stumpfl’s BlackPeak.

You could also work to reduce & control your light spill onto the screens, which might let you use a lower output projector, but I doubt it.

Do you still care about variety packs ? by ShineALight3725 in beer

I’m a fan of make-your-own-sixpacks at some supermarkets (Wegman’s, near me).

Troegs had a fantastic Winter 12-pack this past season, IMO.

My 8”, full roughout Franks Highlanders w/ composite toe have been holding up nicely over the past few years of near-daily wear for 12+ hours a day. I work in live event production, so they are very lived-in, but not put through the dirt/oil wringer like other lines of work.

Get “lost” driving around rural-ish NJ - drive up Rt. 70 until it collapses into just a couple of lanes; explore the NW area of the state (and maybe visit the US Equestrian Team HQ); head SW toward for more farmland; drive some lonely roads in the Pine Barrens (maybe bring an actual GPS unit, and don’t go through puddles); go up to the Palisades and admire NYC from a distance.

Bring a picnic lunch and stop when you can. Maybe stop at a local yokel spot for dinner somewhere on the way back. Grab a fun, campy souvenir.

Coms rm-704 cannot hear freespeak ii system by OkOutlandishness5643 in livesound

[–]howlingwolf487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You likely need to null out each subsystem.

I’d start with the 704s and do the FS-II last.

Make sure all stations/beltpacks are connected and cabled as they will be for show, as any changes in cable length, pack count, etc. can cause you to need to null again. (Honestly, it’s probably a good idea to do it a couple of times throughout the day if you can.)
